Lower Back Pain and Treatments?

Posted by home  Published in Health and Safety

Do you suffer from lower back pain? Lower back pain is an extremely common symptom. One study showed around 18% of people reporting having had some form of lower back pain in the past month. Lower back pain symptoms run the gamut from being a slight inconvenience to completely incapacitating. Back pain is one of the most common reasons people present to their doctor for evaluation.

Unfortunately, there´s a lot of misinformation about what constitutes the best lower back pain treatment. The first step to take when you experience an episode of back pain is to see your doctor to make sure it´s musculoskeletal in origin and not due to any underlying orthopedic pathology. Once this is ruled out, you can concentrate on relieving your lower back pain symptoms.

It´s reassuring to know that between 30 and 60 percent of people who experience lower back pain will recover within 7 days. A whopping 95 percent will recover in 12 weeks. Even though complete recovery is likely, lower back pain can be quite inconvenient until relief is obtained. Here´s a review of what has been shown to work and doesn’t work in the area of lower back pain treatment:

1. Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen is in the class of drugs known as anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs). Medical studies have shown strong evidence that this class of medications significantly reduces the symptoms of lower back pain. Unfortunately, this class of medications can have side effects and shouldn´t be taken if you have a history of a peptic ulcer or have bled from the digestive tract. You should also avoid them if you have a history of kidney disease.

2. Tylenol

Tylenol or acetaminophen has been shown to be effective in lower back pain treatment in several studies. It´s unclear as to whether this medication is as effective as Ibuprofen, although it does have benefits and may be useful if you can´t take Ibuprofen. Tylenol should not be used if you have a history of liver disease.

3.Tramadol

Tramadol is used to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain. It also may be used to treat pain caused by surgery and chronic conditions such as cancer or joint pain. Tramadol works by decreasing the brain’s perception and response to pain. It also reduces the size or magnitude of the pain signal passed from one nerve to another. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. While not an over the counter drug, you can buy tramadol online.

4. Muscle relaxants

This group of medications has been shown in a variety of medical studies to be quite effective in relieving the muscle spasm associated with lower back pain, if taken within the first few weeks of symptom. These medications require a prescription from your doctor due to the potential for them to become addictive in a small number of people. Other side effects that may limit their use are drowsiness, lightheadedness, and dizziness. This means they should not be used if you´re operating any type of machinery or driving a car.

5. Application of Heat

The application of moist heat to the affected areas of the back has been shown to be effective in relieving lower back pain symptoms. A hot water bottle or a moist heat pack can be applied to the affected area several times a day for best results.

6 Application of Cold.

Unfortunately, cod packs have not been shown to be as effective as heat in lower back pain treatment. This form of therapy is probably best avoided.

7. Exercise

This lower back pain treatment method might surprise you. Studies showed a structured exercise program or exercises designed specifically for lower back pain didn´t prove effective in relieving lower back pain symptoms, no matter the time interval or the type of exercise used. What did show benefit was generalized activity over bed rest. Patients who were generally active with their lower back pain experienced a quicker recovery than those who treated their symptoms with bed rest.

Perfect Techniques when Rebricking your House

Posted by home  Published in Home Improvements

Removing and replacing bricks in your home is a major job, there are only actually a couple of genuine reasons anyone would want to do this. Firstly the bricks and mortar that were used when the house was built may have been of a poor quality, in this case you may need to replace the bricks. Some form of damage, whether it is due to flooding or ground movement could be another reason for rebricking your home.

The actual cost for rebricking your house will depend on a number of different things, including: - The shape size of the house - The Quality of the bricks you want to use - Who you need to hire to do the job

This job can also damage other parts of the home if it is not done carefully, including fascia boards and window frames.

When most brick homes are built the walls are constructed before the trim is fitted. This means that for the new bricks to be installed you must remove the exterior trim. If your bricks are very old, and so require windows replacement then you will almost certainly have to replace the wood work as well. All of these things must be considered as they will add to the cost of your rebrick project.

It’s also important to try and retain as many of the original features as possible. If your home has arched windows and doors then these should carefully be replaced. This will be much more expensive as it makes the job more complicated, however it will make your home much more desirable when you come to sell it.

Consider Need Along With Viability

When you are working out how much it will cost you to rebrick house you should also be aware that most contractors will only want to work with one team of builders. However you can offer to do some of the work by yourself. It is more than possible for some of the manual labor to be done by yourself, this should reduce the costs that you will have to shell out on the project. There are actually quite a lot of different things that you can do, you could mix mortar or even just carry the bricks. Although these are fairly small savings, it all mounds up!

You could also remove the old wood work and metal fixtures by yourself, these are not that difficult. However you will need to talk to the contractor about this so that everything is coordinated. Most of the cost with rebricking a house will be digging down to the foundation as all brick walls rest on the foundations of the house. The foundations are typically made out of brick that is wider than most homes. There must be enough space around the foundations for the brick layers to work.
