Mission accomplished

Published by mike3fan under Trucking travels

I made my way from La Porte,TX to Harvey,IL in time for my delivery, while the trip was pretty uneventful the weather was not.It started in blazing heat and now  as I sit here in Harvey it is about 57 degrees, with a few thunderstorms in between.

I hope to make a short little trip over to Michigan today and  head home for the weekend…..but we’ll see how that works out.

Africa hot in Texas

Published by mike3fan under Trucking travels

Holy smokes it’s hot in Texas, duh it’s the middle of summer dummy.

Well I finally made my 1,350 mile trip in 41/2 days whew tough….lol. I deliver at 7am,I got a call today from our terminal manager in La Porte saying she had a couple of loads going north if I was interested, choices were WI or Harvey,IL and I took the Harvey since it is 5 miles from one of our best terminal and I should easily get a load home from there.

I was trying to figure out what the plants are planning on doing for the 4th of July break, are they gonna just be off for just that day or are they gonna take a long weekend? And if they are the first part of the week or the last part?

Would love to know what the majority are thinking.Would like to work, but don’t want to be sitting in a truck stop somewhere when I could be at home instead.

Be careful what you wish for…..

Published by mike3fan under Trucking travels

In my last post I was hoping to get a load out of Nitro,WV to work the weekend, well I got one the problem is that it is going to San Antonio,TX which isn’t all that bad but it doesn’t deliver until 7am on Wed morning so the 1,350 mile trip is to be completed in 3 1/2 days.

I made it in between Nashville and Jackson,TN where I got a 34 hour reset and then today I made it to Texarkana(don’t laugh).

I figured I would rather stay here than in Dallas somewhere, then tommorrow I will complete the trip to San Antonio and have a full day available on Wed.,more than likely I will have to go to our LaPorte,TX terminal since that is the closest one we have to San Antonio.

One problem I am having with this load is that it was pre-loaded and when I weighed it my weights were 12,040 on the steers 35,040 on drives and 32,660 on trailer tandems and 79,740 gross with 1/4 tank fuel,so I have been stopping and only putting on 50 gallons at a time and so far I have been given the green light on the prepass so maybe I will make it with no problems…

Hope to start heading toward Michigan,so we can go camping over the 4th.

Fog sucks

Published by mike3fan under Trucking travels

After I delivered my load in Cincicrappy I headed to Columbus to load for Charleston,WV.On my way down 35 along the river in WV it was extremely foggy and slow going, not something you usually run into in the summer months but it still sucked big time, how come it only seems to be foggy when you are dead tired and need to get the last 50 miles in before you will get a break?

I headed over to our Nitro,WV terminal to hopfully get a load to do this weekend but there was nothing in the tray, another driver said that dispatch usually comes in a little later on Saturday,I sure hope so I would hate to have to stay in this ****hole for the weekend.

Boring day of driving

Published by mike3fan under Trucking travels

I didn’t get loaded until 5:30am,when I left the shipper I made it about 30 miles and had to lay down for about 3 hours to make up for all the time I spent in the sleeper not being able to sleep.

I ran across one of our other drivers coming across NY and we had dinner at a little dive on I-86 around Bath,NY.He was delivering in MA tommorrow afternoon,so we caught up on all the gossip and went our seperate ways.

Got a copy of Co-Pilot9 today and am trying to learn how to operate it,it seems like an ok program but will take some time getting used to it compared to Microsoft Streets&Trips.

It is pretty nice having it route you on truck routes though.

I’m still in no big hurry,I don’t deliver in Cincinnati until tommorrow at 5pm and I am only 400 miles away, hopfully I can get a nice long run to do over the weekend tommorrow or a short one home, either way works for me.

BTW,I-86 across NY is boring as hell.
