Hypothetically speaking, if I fueled at the Flying J while I logged I was on a 34 hour reset, it would invalidate the 34 hour reset, because I was on duty.
No one said anything about fueling at the "J." Fuel at the Pilot, log fueling and bring your line vertically up to line 3. Then DRIVE to the "J" and park your rig. Now, continue your vertical line up to line 1 and start your "reset." [As of the time you finished fueling!] Do NOT show any line 3 time for getting to the "J." You shouldn't have to fuel while at the "J" for only 34 hours of idling. When you leave, you go to line 3 and "add in" 5 minutes or whatever it took to get there.

If you have to pay for a shower, do so. If you were able to fuel at a "J" in the last week, you should HAVE a shower. (Or shower at the Pilot, then get the heck OUT of there!)

Unless your company is going to "ping" your qualcom/gps unit and fire you for being at the "J" when your logbook says you didn't drive there, you will be fine. Your logbook will only say you spent your "reset" in PHOENIX.

If your company insists you spend 34 hours at the "murder capital" of Phoenix, perhaps it is time for a job hop!

That'll be $19.99, please!! Pay Roadhog! I owe him for some beer and hookers!

If you wanna get REAL "technically grey," unless you were under a load, you can go Off Duty as soon as you finished fueling, then drive your UNLADEN CMV to the "J" for your reset. Totally within FMCSA sanctions!

Since my 34 hour restart may have started hours ealier before I might have arrived at the Flying J or Pilot, logging a fuel stop at that time would invalidate the restart and I would have to restart my restart. At that point I wouldn't have enough time to retart I would be left with nothing but recap hours. That is why I speak of fitting in a restart using a 10 lbs. hammer.

Okay, I'll give you back the hammer, as soon as I've finished bashing in my skull with it! I could have SWORN you said you were at the Pilot because you were on fumes, it was the only place you could fuel, and you needed a restart.

If you started your restart BEFORE you got to the "authorized" fuel stop, i.e. PILOT, then you better buy some fuel with cash! I just can't relate to these companies that tell you WHEN, WHERE and HOW MUCH to fuel! ESPECIALLY when they want you to work miracles with your line 3 time!

Yeah, I make a penny or two less per mile than most of you..... but I have something that I always thought trucking stood for.... FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE!

I think you're at the Pilot because you're HOPING someone will pull out a gun and start shooting! Then you'll "FIND" one lying in the dirt.... and join in!!! Yeehaw!! A good ole Texas Gunfight!

Hobo...see that doesn't work.
I try beating sense into my brain every day...and I still don't seem to "get it."

I tell you what though. I would fuel and park at the Pilot...then just walk over to the Flying J and sleep on the sofa in the Trucker's lounge. I would bring all my smelly laundry with me, so people would give me plenty of room in there....and the staff might even offer me a free shower....and a meal. :?

I did say all of that, I don't see how it changes anything. I made it to the Pilot without having to fuel and then having to log a fuel stop. On paper I had a uniterrupted 34 hours. Once I made it to the Pilot I didn't have to move for "34" hours. Why buy fuel with my own money. I was no more than 1/4 anywhere on the property from a pump. After "34" hours I fuel and did my PTI and LC and was on my way. How is this so difficult to understand?

Okay, you didn't fuel when you got there? You fueled at the pilot just before you LEFT after a 34 hour reset? why not go to the "J" for 34 hours, and THEN go to the pilot and FUEL JUST before leaving?

Um... RoadHog can you help me out here? I think guns have clouded his vision!

What's so difficult to understand, Terry, is this: If you are told WHERE to fuel, but not WHEN.... then go shut down where you WANT to, then drive to the fuel stop before leaving! LIke I said, my company doesn't RULE me! But, the situation you've explained, IF I even HALF way understand it, allows for all kinds of options! IF I TOTALLY misunderstand your situation, I apologize. And, I'll just bow out of this and let you do what you feel you need to do!

After all.... you've been doing this for a whole 3 months, right?

Now it is three months and several days. 8) Seems like I keep accumulating experience. What do they say about hindsight being 20/20. When I parked at the Pilot I had no idea it was a bad place to park. My experience there was not a bad experience, in fact, until Yooper said something, I had been thinking it was a nice Pilot as far as Pilots go. It was within walking distance of a couple of Malls and several resturants. I would stop there again. I don't know where the Flying J is in relationship to the Pilot. Is it further? I might not have made it. If I parked there, would I be able to make it back to the Pilot? I don't understand you confussion. Why this fixation on the Flying J. Is the Flying J in Phoenix something special? It must, really, be something. I just might have to check it out the next time I'm in Phoenix.
