8 points on my licence am I doomed?
I have 8 points on my NYS drivers license and I'm obviously having a hard time trying to find either a regional or OTR job.
Now I know the perils of speeding and don't need a lecture, just some advice on what companies might still give me a start. I managed to get all the points while I was visiting the US 18 months ago and driving a rental car here on a UK drivers license. I got 6 points for doing 93 in a 65 and (believe this or not) I got 2 points when a local cop stopped me for failing to use my turn signals to pull onto my wife's driveway at 11.30 pm on a Saturday night, and we live on a road that has about 2 cars per hour go down it during rush hour. Since I got these points I have emigrated to the USA and have taken my CDL and NYS were nice enough to add these violations to my abstract.(Little bit of british sarcasm there) I should explain that I have held a UK CDL for 16 years and driven all over Europe in that time without a single ticket or accident. The sole reason I was doing 93mph was because i had just arrived in the US on a short trip and hadn't seen my wife and kids for nearly 4 months...but that's really no excuse. I have documented proof of my European experience and also proof of no accident and claims for the last 6 years. I see many of companies saying no more than 2 violations in the last 18 months but I have been refused recently for 2 jobs because of the 6 point violation. Is this a general policy across the board or are there still some insurance companies that realize that sometimes we even the most sensible human being has a brain fart?

Ummm - 93 in a 65 isn't a brain fart, it's diarrea. It's also a wreckless driving, which pretty much means you screwed yourself.

It's not THAT the wind is blowing........
It's WHAT the wind is blowing! The 93 in a 65 will have to come off before you do anything.. or should even be allowed to! :!:

You will likely have to wait until the speeding ticket drops off the license before anyone will hire you. Most insurance carriers won't touch you with a speeding ticket that high. My insurance company recently turned down a guy who had one ticket doing 25 over the speed limit, in a 4 wheeler. They don't care what your previous record was, only what is currently on your MVR or abstract. I am surprised that if the ticket was on your UK license that it followed you here. Perhaps it was because it was in the same state as where you now have your license. It would have been best had you hired a lawyer, at the time, to fight the ticket. Sometimes they can reduce the charges. It is probably too late, at this point. Unfortunately, I think you will be forced to wait until that drops off your license before most U.S. carriers will hire you. However, there are a lot of carriers. You could just keep on knocking on doors. You may find one who can accept you.
One other note, you may contact the juristiction where the ticket was written and explain the situation to them. Perhaps they can do something to help you. I would tell them that you cannot find a job due to this being on your record. They may or may not be able or willing to do something to help. Good luck. Let us know if you can work something out.

Could be worse mate; You could still be back in the U.K with our new "smart" cameras that are able to distinguish between cars and H.G.V.s
I,ve driven all over Europe doing heavy haulage, no accidents, years of experience, non E.E.C as well---- counted for nothing at Duns district court the other week. Bastards took my licence for 6 months, ordered me to pay fines at a rate based on my earnings(How dumb is that?). Now I compete for shite jobs with hordes of eastern europeans willing to work for a pittance My crime? Caught by new cameras on A1 doing 48mph,47mph and 44mph! Three offences with a cumulative overspeed of 19mph. You and I know, that most trucks would happily whizz down that road at 56mph or more. So here I am, a very experienced european heavy haulage driver, looking for jobs filling shelves in supermarkets. Grrraagggh I feel so bitter!!! Good to get that off my chest though  Anyway, good luck mate and I hope it works out for you

If someone else has caused injury or death to your family because he was doing 93mph. in a 65mph zone, I don't think that you would be willing to chalk it up to "extenuating circumstances".
Sorry, but violations like that, even if it only happened one time, should be enough to keep you out of a big truck for the next three to five years. That type of speed kills.

Just out of curiosity, how is it drivng in Europe? Is the pay comparable to here? Must be beautiful sights out there. As with here with the immigrants and wages, is it the same over there? I know there is heavy immigration over there too not only from Africans but from the poorer EU countries.
Good luck to you.

Good luck to you. Driving to non E.E.C you need to have T forms and so on. The wages are probably comparable to the U.S , or so I think.. A British driver should expect to earn in excess of £25000 p.a for distance work, less for local work etc. And eastern europeans? Send the bastards back! They,re killing our economy, all they do is take take take take. Because of them, national socialism is on the rise
