They don't care what your previous record was, only what is currently on your MVR or abstract. I am surprised that if the ticket was on your UK license that it followed you here. Perhaps it was because it was in the same state as where you now have your license. It would have been best had you hired a lawyer, at the time, to fight the ticket. Sometimes they can reduce the charges. It is probably too late, at this point. Unfortunately, I think you will be forced to wait until that drops off your license before most U.S. carriers will hire you. However, there are a lot of carriers. You could just keep on knocking on doors. You may find one who can accept you.

One other note, you may contact the juristiction where the ticket was written and explain the situation to them. Perhaps they can do something to help you. I would tell them that you cannot find a job due to this being on your record. They may or may not be able or willing to do something to help. Good luck. Let us know if you can work something out.
I appreciate your sensible and constructive reply. Thanks

Thanks Kjax. I'm fast beginning to learn that there are as many "know it all's" with a superiority complex over here driving trucks.....or keyboards as there are back in the UK.

Rather than an a "holier than thou" attitude I've always found good drivers had the "there but for the grace of god, go I" attitude.

I'm curios, did you plead guilty to the 93mph, or did you plea bargain it down? NYS is notorious for plea bargaining.

I got wacked at 87 in a 55 (Rural state route) in my Altima a year and a half ago and the municipal court prosecutor wacked it down to a 65 in 55 to keep the cash in the municipality.

When asked by the judge why drive 87, I said I was checking the quality of a repair of a wheel vibration at higher speeds and wanted to make sure it was gone. He actually understood, upheld the deal of ten over speed, issued the 100 buck fine, and sent me on my way with only 3 points.....which were acceptable to most OTR companies. Those points will be gone in another month or two.

Excessive speeding is stupid, and sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do, but there are no excuses for it.

Good luck with your career in the USA and welcome to the USA !

At the time it happened I wasnt a resident of the US and wasnt even sure i was going to become one. I just plead guilty by post, as I was in a rental car driving on a UK licence I never gave a future NYS licence I second thought.
