Adding info. To d.a.c. Report

I have a few employers over the last 19 years but my DAC only shows a 1 month employment in 2002 and 3 months the end of 2008. That hasn't stopped me from getting a job in any way. chris1 knows what he's talking about, former employers can only answer the questions on the DAC system, there is no provision for open comments. Theey cannot burn you for 1 load that you screwed up on and have everything else be good. Even after getting your DAC a prospective employer is required by law to verify your previous 3 years and more than likely any bad info they are getting is coming from the faxed verification or the phone conversation.
I used to work in the office of a trucking compnay and did most of the previous employment verification. I had an instance one time where we were looking at a gentleman and the very first previous employer I called started off by telling me "I'll deny ever saying any of this" then went on to tell me what a horrible driver this guy was. Illegal in every sense of the word and would never stand up in court but you as a driver cannot control what a "live" person will say on the phone or write on a seperate sheet of paper and fax back with the verification. Most companies of any size at all will never cross that line but you go to work for a small 1 or 2 truck outfit and upset the boss and they don't always follow the letter or intent of the law. We would never answer any questions over the phone until we received a signed release via fax or mail then we would only aswer the questions allowed by law, dates of employment, eligible for re-hire, type('s) of equipment operated, accident history and so on. When they would start asking subjective questions the phone call was over. When it comes to knowing DAC, Chris1 knows his stuff. I'm not going to tell on him but he has more knowledge than probably any one else on here when it comes to DAC and former employment verification.

The first thing a carrier will do when they receive an application is pull your DAC, providing they subscribe. If something pops up then they start doing additional investigating. They are required to check at least the last 3 years.

Most of the large carriers will not give out more info than what is on DAC. If it's clean there is no need to ask further. 8-9 years ago one of the largest charged 20.00 for the info. The regs say nothing about a charge for that info. They discontinued that policy after about 6 mos.

Well like i said before i just have only 1 company on my d.a.c report which is only 3 months and that is all the driving experience that is on there. So if they want the rest of my 10 years i guess they will contact former employers by phone to get that experience verified?? Correct??

Companies use DAC to quickly check an applicant's work and driving history. It is much quicker than making phone calls. If there is nothing that pops up then that is usually as far as the carrier need go as long as there is at least 3 years showing up. Most carriers only use DAC as part of the hiring process. If there is incorrect information on your DAC it is up to the driver to challenge them and try to get them corrected.

Don't worry about not having much information on your DAC. The important thing is that there is no negative information. Although we are only required to check the last 3 years experience, I usually contact all references given. Not all carriers take the time to do that. They usually only do what they are required to do. I have been talking to some carriers recently who are doing more checks on prospective drivers. One informed me that some insurance companies are now checking DAC themselves before covering a driver. |
