US Xpress has them in their Truck. had to get out and lower the landgear on the trailer so I used the regular kingpin release anyway.

My truck is a former USX truck with the air release 5th wheel. After I lost my trailer last week, they disconnected the switch in the event that's what caused it.

I pulled the release manually prior to that anyway.

Is the 5th wheel release disabled when the parking brakes are released? Seems that otherwise would be an extreme safety hazard.

No. He has a hydraulic 5th wheel. He hooks onto a trailer, and raises it up enough to where the landing gear is plenty high to move the trailer.

Yes we have a single axle truck that we us in the yard as a yard goat and once in a great while will use it on the road. The only way it will release the kingpin is when the both brakes are not released.
