Anxiety medication- Disqualify me from driving??

While you are to be commended for asking the questions and seeking answers.... what you really should do is call a trucking company in your area, and ask them who does their DOT Physicals, and also ask if they have a local MRO... Medical Review Officer, who will be a doctor...an MD or Osteopath, who can best answer your questions.
I have little reason to doubt "sheepdancer", as he is pretty knowledgeable 8) , so checking out the possibilities of popping a DUI is valid. Best to find out now, then run into a career killing problem at a later date, especially after investing your time and money to start a new career. "Discretion is truly the better part of Valor"!

In college lots of kids abused Addy to study and stay up all night. I agree, if you don't need it and take it, the effects are similar to cocaine.
BTW- just because something is prescribed, doesn't mean it is ok to drive on it. Years ago when i was mad at the world, my doctor gave me Lexapro (antidepressant) and it MOST DEFINITELY impaired my driving, and wouldn't recommend driving on it if you really are NOT depressed. My buddy got prescribed a competitior's antidepressant and almost killed me driving porrly (result of the 'script). I'm not saying that prescription drugs impair driving ability in all, as many do benefit from the drug and live normal lives. I will FIRMLY stand by my own statement that prescription drugs are over-prescribed, and are handed out like candy. My friend gets a prescription for addy and doesn't need it- faked symptoms to get it. Sells them to his friends  Another kid I knew played Xbox 26 hours a day and never lifted a book and was diagnosed with a learning disability and got a prescription for ritalin (spelled right?). Please don't interpret this as ignorance towards those that genuinely need these new drugs to help them live fullfilling lives. Its the abuse and mis-diagnosis of conditions resulting in unecessary prescriptions that give them a bad name

You can very easiely get a DUI for driving under a prescription...even if you have it.
Look at it this way....Say i broke my arm really bad tomorrow and the DR prescribed me morophine. I take it and have no problem driving quite a few times. A few days later I take it on an empty stomach and it affects me really bad, I drive to the store. Im pulled over for something like a headlight out or something. The cop notices Im not quite normal and Im slurring my speech a bit. he decides to give me a test. I tell the cop "its ok, im not drinking, Im just on Morophine...See here is my prescription" Guess what? Its still a DUI and im going to jail. Like I said, Adderall is a VERY powerful amphetamine. You could take it 200 times and be fine and Poof, 1 time it could affect you differently. And in the news today on this name subject...... http://www.usnews.com/usnews/health/...21.ritalin.htm

I think if you have anxiety issues, you should not be allowed to drive, you would need to double or triple your dose just to handle the issues truck driving brings to not freak out.... simple life stresses take your pill, truck driving stresses take half a bottle of pills, you decided if you need to amp up on anxiety to be safe and sane out on the big road... this could be why people on that medicine are restricted from drivinng 80,000 lbs down the road, might have an anxiety attack, now what do you do then ???... I see alot of stress on the road, it gets me all amp up on anxiety... I just deal with it, if you want to drive then tell them your 100 percent fine and take no meds..... if you want to go by the rules then sorry your not driving. I don't think you should be driving either and sorry to say it as well. how well do you handle stress and how well do you handle stress to the 20th power is the difference in everyday life and truck driving..

hope this list helps
I would you call the company nurse and ask if a drug your doctor gave you is a knock out drug. Please don't assume the list posted is 100% correct. The only way to know for sure is to call and ask. It’s a smart move. This list is extensive but it does change. Not all doctors know what drugs a driver can take and still be qualified to drive. I have called the Nurse in the past and asked what I can take to relieve cold, flu symptoms. She was glad to help!

Many kids do need it, but how many of you old-timers had Ritalin way back when>? Most were probably prescribed the belt, and you all turned out fine! 8)
