recent abandonment
i left a company in a fleece deal because i was always broke. Could not afford the fuel to take the truck back. Wasnt trying to screw the company just couldnt afford to pay my bills at home and feed the family. Bills with the truck were always paid though. Are there any companies that will hire someone with a abandonment within the past year. Working local at the time just need to be in a truck otr. Gotta need for the open road and smell of diesel. Does not help when they put in a new truckstop here that i go by almost every day.

Speaking of stupid! What kind of response is this. I asked a simple question and you go and reply with this type of nonsense. Jeez man, grow up! You are supposed to be an adult and a professional. Besides, I have a trucking career and I am proud of my record. I was just asking due to a conversation I had with another driver the other day.

As far as I know, it depends on the person interviewing. Most will view the abandonment as a lifetime black mark, and will never hire that driver.
Now the real question is which is worse, abandonment of just the tractor, a tractor with a empty trailer, or the combo of the two fully loaded with cargo? And has anyone ever heard of a load being abandon while on a run? There have been some who have abandoned a truck while on a run. That is probably the worst of all abandonments.

Just out of curiosity, I was talking to a guy the other day that had an abandonment on his record and he asked me how long most companies wanted to wait till they would even looked at him. I told him I did not know. Do any of you know how far in the past must an abandonment be before a company will hire that person?
Lifetime @ some places, every company will look hard at an abandonment and with good reason. It must cost them a ton to recover a truck, not to mention cost of the load, theft, vandelism, storage fee, towing, loss of use, and I'm sure there's more. |
