I have a Uniden PC78XL (I think) and it works well enough. I had it professionally installed with a steel whip antenna and it's great. I can get out several miles and hear good radios 10+ miles away. Paid around $300 for the whole package, but the radio itself was about $130 and the antenna was about $40. I'd still like to get one those "big radios" in the future.

Driver it doesnt matter what kinda radio you get as long as you take good care of it. If ya wanna lotta bells and whistles youll pay plenty for it. Myself I like my cobra 29 classic. Ive had over $350 put in it in peaking and tuning talkback and echo and cleanings over the years. I got it off a driver for $50 in 2003 when I started driving and its a 97 model. Its a good radio I just invested some money in. I can still get out far enough to keep my but outta trouble and hear whats going on ahead. Its all in what you want. It sounds like your just starting out and probably wont make much your first year so buy a cheaper radio to start and work your way up to that big ol general lee or ranger or galaxy.
Just my 2 cents take it for what its worth.

wow people still use 4 watt cb's ??? i like how someone said there CB keys at 12 watts, yeah good pipe dream, you would have to have a radio modified (true modification not a peak job done at your local truck stop hacker).. I use to modify radios and put a motorola 35 watt transistor in them and dead key at 20 and swing to 30, extra freqs and sttuff , yup them midland 19 channel radios were the day.......
Then came the days when every CBer wanted and had wet dreams over the Ranger RCI 2950, man i can still see their faces glowing, heheheehehe, anyway, us older gents used Gallaxy dX99v and some had the Galaxy 88hml, these both put out 10 watts am/fm and 25 watts ssb and had the echo and rgr beep and the freq counter and the dual clarifiers both for recieve and transmit, much better radio than that 2950 ever was..... BUT THEN, galaxy met the dog and designed a radio just for me, Galaxy dX95T, this bad boy puts out 50 watts am/fm and 150 watts ssb straight out of the box, it as all the bells as well as all the others, it first started with a few models that were called twin turbo, they put out 20 watts which were the DX45MP and tte DX48T and DX93T, really nice 20 watt out of the box sttuff but then they built the best which is my favorite....... the DX95T for a peak at all there radios just go here and read te specs, they also list just your simple 4 watt am only and ssb radios as well you get at te truckstops, check it out http://www.galaxyradios.com/

http://www.cbssportsstore.com/sm-uni...i-1978090.html I run a 88 Galaxy, I only dead key near 2 watts and swing to around 45 watts on high power! In my opinion the Uniden 68 is a lessor cousin of the cobra 29, which is the most popular radio. I have had lots of cobras ( 25, 29 and 148 ) and I liked the 148 the best. I got a deal on the 88 about 5 years ago, best radio I have ever had, except the Galaxy Pluto I had years ago, they don't even make them anymore.. My 1st radio was a Royce 23 channel, good radio also..
