Default Application and Background Check

I am preparing applications and additional papers as a part of the job search. I am aware that due to federal regulations and safety concerns, there is a lot more scrutiny over applications than most other jobs.

I have never had a felony or a DUI, and my MVR is clean as a whistle. I have had a few jobs over the past 10 years, mostly non-driving jobs, with a few gaps in employment that can be explained.

My main concern is a period of self-employment. I can produce tax records for all but one year of self employment. I'm afraid that may cause a problem. Would a notarized affidavit from someone who knew my employment situation at the time suffice?

Also, through means unknown to me, there appear to be a couple of extra names on some of my records. I'm not sure which records, but I have never used a name other than my own.

Any ideas on how these things will affect my employability?

While companies will ask for a 10 year work history they generally only verify the last 3 unless there are driving jobs in that 10 year history, then they may verify those as well.

One is a cinch. Two may be possible. Three? I doubt I could find anyone who would remember that far back. That was four moves ago, 600 miles away, and at least 8 years ago.

8 years back, you just list your self employment on the application. I do not think any company will ask to verify that information. Now if it was a driving job, then yes, they must verify.
Other then Driving jobs, I've only seen the last 3 to 5 years be verified by employers.
