Apprentice Programs VS Driving Schools
Hi... I am an old guy looking to start his second career after 30 years of being self employed. My questions are regarding the best way to get driver training and of course, a CDL. Is it best to go to a school or is on the job Apprentice program sufficient. I am a transplant from Green Bay Wis... to Boise, Idaho... Sage Training is just up the road a piece... could you vets give me some idea of which way to go....? thanks

School
Pro's. Have CDL and diploma at end. Do not owe a company anything Can freely switch companies if need be. More job options as there are not many companies that offer in house schooling. Cons. Higher out of pocket expense for tuition. Company School programs Pro. Lower initital out of pocket expense. On the road a little faster Cons: Often time no classroom instruction. Must get permit on your own. If you do not complete the school or leave for any reason before contract is fulfilled often owe 100% for school. Cost of school is often higher than private schools if paid out of pocket. May not get diploma until completion of contract one way or another which may cause problems finding another job. ============================================= Either way you cut it you are looking at several weeks of school (2-3 for company and 4-6 for private, approx) and then 4-6 weeks of OTJ training at the first company you work for after school.
