Default Average Fuel Burn Rate Of Idling Trucks and Motorhomes

On average, what is the per hour fuel burn rate, in gallons, of an idling OTR type truck that does not have an APU?

Same question for a typical 35- or 40-foot class A, diesel-pusher motor home. What is the typical fuel burn rate in gallons per hour when idling?

Thanks.

A OTR truck averages 1 to 1 and half gallons an hr. I would say a motor home would be close to that.

That also depends on which motor and idle speed.

In order to idle for an extended time when needed, my last company set the truck so you had to idle it up to ~900 RPMs. Doing so burned 12 gallons in an 8 hour period, on a Detroit Series 60

My current company does NOT set their trucks like that, and at a 600 RPM idle, my current Cat C15 burns 5 gallons in an 8 hour period.
