same here . in NJ if you GOAL its an automatic fail. (good thing i asked before the test started. and backing just comes with practice. i learned that after i failed my test the first time (passed it 2nd time almost perfectly) i posted about backing when i first started, and, while i have not driven a truck in about a month (looking for first job since school) i NOW know that the tips help ONLY if you can find a way to mentally apply it. we all work differently. some turn the wheel under "righty tighty lefty loosy" like a screw to alley dock sight side. i DONT.
for me left opens up the truck right jacks it closed. but PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE (and take a break too lol) too much practice might mentally wear you out.

one more thing, its actually EASIER to do it with the clutch fully out and just rolling back. once you got it down it will almost just glide in
and just when you think you are an expert, the world will remind you that you just mastered THAT dock lol bnot all ofthem. just remember that you can NEVER get too confident cuz thats when you fail. thats exactly why i failed to begin with. i was so fonfident in the yard that for three days before my first test i did not practice backing just went on the road. when i got to DMV i made two encroachments. (passed the blind side line about 4 inches twice.) that and the pullups i was doing anyway to get in right. there went all my points and i failed. quick reminder that you are never too good to be careful.

When it gets into the cone lane bring the tractor back around in front of the trailer and turn your 90degree back into a straight back. If you get to the point that the trailer tires are going to run over the cones, stop and pull up. Use as many pull-ups as you need(if allowable) #11 Take your time and you'll do fine OR... Turn on the CB and ask for help!! That always seems to work   |
