Only problem I have... I often shift faster than the tranny can keep up with. Going from low to high range, it's like the truck is in neutral, and I have to move out of the hole and back into it to make it go into gear.

Keep practicing, and eventually, the gears will become second nature. But beware of driving a car or pickup after that. With a stick, the gears just don't work the same, and with an automatic, you put your right foot on the brake, and along comes the left foot to put in the clutch... And, you nearly put yourself through the windshield...

Got a brother that had a passenger rolling with laughter. My brother was DOUBLE-CLUTCHING a 1/4 ton pickup...:lol::lol:

Don't sweat it Hawkjr.....

They all grind gears even the most season pro.... and call BS on them if they say they don't. .

It's called the Human Reliablity Factor.

I have a 67 Mustang Fastback 4 speed and once in a blue moon on our Sunday drives I have found myself double clutching, The wife gets a big kick out of it as well...

Some habits are hard to break

I don't care how long you have been driving, you are gonna miss at least a shift a day. It just happens, it does happen less over time.

I would hazard a guess that every old timer out here, including myself, would tell you even we get lost, frustrated, confused and even have days when we can't hit the dock to save our lives. It happens less over time but it absolutely still happens.

HawkJr;

Some guys have "the right stuff", and some guys DON'T"!! I HAVE "the right stuff"; obviously, you DON'T.

I started out driving after returning home from seven tours of duty in Vietnam. I won three Purple Hearts during my last tour of duty in the Army, where I served as a Navy SEAL!!

In the two years that I drove OTR, I drove millions of miles, accident and incident free. The CIA contracted with my company to haul loads of Double Top Secret Classified Freight, with the understanding that I would be the driver handling them. I helped my company land those contracts through my connections with the CIA.

I was a BORN Super Trucker. I NEVER grinded gears as a student, a trainee, or a driver..... not even ONCE!!

As for backing?? Driving a big truck?? I took right to it!!

I was BORN with a steering wheel in one hand, and an Eaton Super10 gearshift in the other, one foot on the clutch, and the other one on the accelerator.

I was NEVER a "steering wheel holder". I graduated from being a student driver and went straight to "Super Trucker". Life as a driver is good when your uncle is "The Federal Marshall"!!

Keeping the left door closed?? No Problem!! I was also Born with a catheter in my........

Oh, Hell !! Never mind !!

I don't even believe that load of crap !!

Do you haul loads of crap too?

WoW Useless you really can do it all,

Don't be bashful.

Your childhood was by far the most impressive.

I think your mother's womb contained diesel fuel and your delivering room was a Flying J.

Your play toys were chains and tire thumpers.

You were potty trained directly to a plastic bottle at age 2.

Your parents were so proud they got you a nifty pair of sweats, ball cap, and chewing tobacco for your 3rd birthday.

By age 4 you could curse better then Patti Blagojevich.
