I haven't missed or ground a gear since April, which is when my wife talked me into buying a damn automatic. Honestly, though, in any given day a driver might make several thousand shifts if he or she is driving in heavy traffic or making multiple drops. Nobody is perfect. When our truck was stolen in March, I was to the point where I might go a few days or even a week without missing a gear, but nobody is ever perfect. What the seasoned professional does learn to do is shift easy, so that when you do miss a gear, you don't grind anything.
