Agreed, but what if you're on your way home and you need 'em?

This was always my theory as well.

Even as a contractor at Arrow, the company STILL provided chains to me free of charge. Of course, I took them off and left them at home since I was running the Texas regional, but they still provided them.

So far I have a record of never putting chains on my truck. A record I have no intention of breaking - if it's that bad, I find another route, or pull over and wait it out.

Irrelevant because some states require that you carry chains whether needed or not.

When I was doing OTR, I could get away with it, but, as I have mentioned when I ran dedicated, the road could be washed out and they wanted the load there early and on time! Pretty sad aye?

WA. is one of those states that require you to carry chains on the truck from Nov. 1- Apr. 1 regardless if you need them, or not.

Yep, I pretty much carried chains year-round regardless of weather or not they where required. I heard chatter on the radio about possibly making it so they have to be on the truck year-round. But, we know how reliable information from drivers can be

Yeah that does not suprise me... Oregon tends to be an odd-ball state anyhow. I think they should just become their own country!

What would you have done today when the Oregon Dept. of Transportation required ALL vehicles to have chains on while traveling in the entire Portland metropolitan area? This happened today about 10 am and the snow started about 5 am. Many drivers sat in gridlock for up to 5 hours, where would you have parked it?
