Nothing, other than your post.

I was never speaking of your carrier specifically, but rather was speaking of carriers that have their own schools.

As I said, it is not normal for these "carrier schools" to prorate the amount that is owed. They usually hit the driver up for the entire amount if they leave early.

Going to an independent school, and having the company pay you monthly for it is a completely different ball of wax. That is what I did when I went to school, but I did not stay long enough to get it paid off.

One thing to note is that if you go to an independent school, and you get hired by a company that pays monthly for the schooling, and you leave before it is paid off, the carrier you go to next will probably not pick up any of the schooling.

Incorrect.

TMC (as well as QUITE A FEW other companies) WILL start picking up the tab for your schooling PROVIDED that they are only the SECOND company you go to.

I find that shocking. If that is the case, things have really changed since I went to school. Back then, they specifically said that they would only pay for schooling if they were your first carrier out of school.

I would guess that it has something to do with the ridiculous turnover rates.

Yes you can use your benifits while on terminal leave. I am currently enrolled in National Training doing the Home Study part of the course. When I go on terminal I will go in residence for three weeks. I used the V.A. certification money to pay for my course. You have up to $9000.00 to use for a certification. It may only be used once and is limited by cost per semester hour. You do not get the unused portion of the 9 grand.

The school I am attending is V.A. approved and my room is even covered as long as I am not fully retired, terminal leave is fine, before I attend. I am currently looking into permissive TDY to attend the in-residence part of the training.

I don't know you circumstances however you have gotten caugth up in a trap I knew I had to avoid, retiring at port. I had a wise old SMSgt tell me that it would be a grave mistake to retire at port. Why you say? For the very reasons you are talking about now.

Have faith though, your ed benifits will cover this.

You are right retiring at port is not the best option, but I didnt want to move to a new base and then move my kids again a year later, since I have allways gotten rotten state side bases.
