Default Cummins or Volvo

Hi guys ... im buying a 2000 Volvo in a week. I have the option of picking one with a Cummins Engine or one with a Volvo Engine. Both Engines have about 525,000 miles (910,000 Kms) on them. Which one should I go for. How long do you think they will last?

Cummins and Volvo are both good engines. However the Cummins engines aren't as good as they were in the past. If possible try to find one with a Cat or Detroit.

If you plan on running in the U.S., you will probably be better off with a Cummins. The primary reason is the availability of parts and service. Cummins is more readily used than Volvo and is used in more brands of truck manufacturers. If you need service you can either go to a certified Cummins dealer or most any truck dealer. Volvo engines are only used in Volvo and is only available at a Volvo truck dealer (as far as I know). 8)

Cummins used to be good engines-wouldn't care for one now.

I don't really care for Cummins, either, yoopr. But I think he will be able to more easily get service when he needs it.

I have had only minor problems with my Cummins n-14.

I would be inclined to get an engine that had a good dealer network. That would be the most important thing to me.

Red engines, Yellow engines. Who knows?
