Day time or night time trucking?

As a solo and now as a team. I like driving nights. I especially like to get to a consignee at night because missing a turn or some other kinds of mistakes are easier to recover from than during the day. I also like making good time. I usually switch out with my wife around 4am or so. I don't like driving nights out west though because it becomes night so much later than I am used to.

Of course, the day/night driving also has to take into account the time of the year and the location. Even though I live just south of Morgantown, WV (junction of I-79 & I-68), I refuse to come across I-68 between Cumberland and Morgantown after dark in the winter unless the weather is absolutely clear.
I've seen some horrific weather there, especially after the sun goes down and the temperature starts dropping. Maryland does a great job on that road, but even after dark they can't keep up.

I like driving part of my day at night. I usually start driving around 3am and go until 8am. By that time there are tons of spots available in the rest areas so I stop and take a snooze for a few hours. I keep driving until around 3pm and have my pick of spots in a truck stop or rest area. Showers are empty, laundry and everything else.
You get a better class of drivers during the night. Much more professional and everyone playing nice together. No trash talk on the CB either.

I agree with a few of the others, in that I kinda split my day by starting in the early morning around 3 or 4 AM and stopping mid afternoon around 4 or 5 PM. By leaving out at 3ish I'm coming on duty when many drivers are ending their day. I also usually take my "lunch" break around 7 or 8 AM for morning rush hour and have my breakfast. By ending my day mid afternoon I'm shutting down before evening rush hour. It affords me the ability to usually be able to find prime parking with out having to search for parking and/or end up trying to create parking.
And speaking of morning rush hour. If I have to, I'd rather drive thru it than evening rush hour. I think morning rush hour is much easier to drive thru than evening rush hour. My black helicoptor conspiracy therory about rush hour; Most civilians on their way to work really arn't in a hurry to get there, they don't always leave home at the same time nor do they arrive at work at the same time - it's kinda staggard. But evening rush hour is much more aggressive because basically most people blast off from work at the stroke of 5PM. There is a greater number of drivers hitting the road at one time. IMHO.
