Default Drivers in the RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX AREA??

Hey guys whats going on? Where should I attend to get my training from? ACT, STC, Schnieder etc?

Reason is I contacted ACT and told me they got a class from dec3-dec28 which is a good opportunity for me to go since ill be on leave after coming in from iraq.

What do you all think great place to get my training done or wait till I leave the service and join a company like sch, prime, etc to pay for my training?

I really dont mind paying for the training at least I have one foot inside the door before I leave the service in 2008..

Thanks!!

First of all, Semper Fi and thank you for your service to our country!!! I would wait till you get out of the service. Lots of things could happen while at school and delay your graduation date. If you are already on limited time that could cause a problem. BOL!!

I second this "Thank you" for your service, and offer you this suggestion.

Once you are certain of your service release date, contact your Company Command, and enquire of the possability of receiving your CDL certification from the Military. Last October, several companies, both Common Carriers as well as Private Fleet, met with Military Training Officers in Baton Rouge, for the purpose of setting up CDL certification courses, for those whom wanted to get their CDL's and join the civilian driver force. I know that something was agreed to, I just do not know what stage it has advanced to. What the terminal manager where I was working, at that time said was, that all those companies were willing to pay for the course cost's, for those whom wanted to get their CDL, before being Discharged. There was also supposed to be a wage agreement made, where Service Members came into the civilian force at a wage that was better than "Newbie" wages. Your CO's can probably find out better information.
And yes..the company I worked for at that time, is hoping to fill seats with honorably discharged service members. They are opening a terminal in San Antonio some time early next year BTW.

And thanks again "Devil Dan" :!: :!: :!: :!:

I used my college money I got from the Corps to pay for my CDL. You may want to look into that!

Default Just my thought. Time Frame..

Well I was thinking of using my military $. But I rather just pay for it up front to get my CDL while Im home in Dec since I got nothing to do during the day...

I was thinking of going threw the military while I was in Washington St. once I was back from Iraq Oct time. but Still dont know if they got that program to get it free there..

November will be a busy month for me to turn stuff back in, get our connexs back from iraq unloading etc so time is limited in that month.

Dec will be home from Dec1-Jan6..

since we got to get ready again to redeploy probably within 1yr after Jan 08. Plus I would have to do all this paper work letting my chain of command know and then getting them to approve it which will take time since these guys here are slow in returning things back to us(soldiers). Which will prob be within March-June time frame where well probably be in training at that time.. Haha..

I wanted to wait till I got out of the military in Dec08 hoping not to get stop loss which means Ill have to do one more yr with the military before they let me go! So that would probably be around April 2009 if we go to iraq in Feb 2008 which looks like its going to happen 95%sure of this.

Then I was thinking of going threw my community college but that just takes up time etc. after I do leave the military..

Why not just eliminate 1 thing before I leave the military such as my training to get my CDL? :?

The only problem I can see with your plan is that most trucking companies that will hire a new Grad. will want you right out of school ( within three months ). If too much time passes then you will have to take a refresher course. That will cost as much and take almost the same amount of time as getting you CDLs in the first place. Bottom line: Once you get your CDL you have to start and KEEP using it or for all pratical purposes ( employment wise ) you loose it.

Good luck to you in what ever you decide, and THANK YOU for your service to our country!

As I posted earlier..work with the folks there at the Military. That program I told you about is moving forward, but since I left the company where I first heard of it, I do not know what they have come to agreement on. The local terminal here just went through a change of management, so once the new Manager has settled in, I will stop over and enquire about it and post what I learn here for you. The new manager over there and I get along great...in fact..he asked me to return to the company last Tuesday. The only reason I don't return, is I am happy doing the O/O deal I am doing, and am making better money than I did there.

Take your time "Devil Dan", and use every opportunity that the military will provide you, to get your CDL training. Be SAFE while OOC.
