That being said, it was not ratified by the American Congress until Clinton was in office. But Clinton did not start it. Reagan knew this Trade Agreement would never happen, unless he could beat down Unions. So he campaigned against Unions, in a big way. Reagan appointed Volker and Greenspan. He gave both of them the authority to do what it took and, of course, aided them with his own efforts to de-regulate the economy, by de-regulating energy, the transportation industry, banking and financial services industry, telecommunications and utilities. It was Reagan who was four square behind the notion of free trade. The idea started with Canadian free trade, which was expanded later to Mexican free trade and what we now call NAFTA.

Sure you have, you just don't remember. Smokey and the Bandit, little Chinese guy in an auto transport, he ripped the door off of a squad car.

Who cares what color or nationality drives...as long as they know how to operate a tractor/trailer safely when I'm on the road.

If NAFTA actually provided for free trade, then it might be a good deal for all countries involved. The problem is that it is very one sided, especially with Mexico. We give. They take. I suppose that is a good reason why you DON'T allow lawyers to get involved in business or trade negotiations.
