Thing I ain't going to miss are: 1. unloaded and reloading for 5 hours a day for FREE. 2. Fueling for Free. 3. Getting a reload a few miles away from drop, but my pick up time my be a 8 hour later, and of course my time was was paid a rate 8 hours x Zero. 5.Construction Zones. 6. Truck Stops 7. Crossing the border. 8. The Bull$hit To the rest of you that do this for a living, I have respect for you and a little pitty. Life is short, but not short enough when your living out of a Semi Truck. Well my first day working for my new company is in the books. It was much more stress free than my cpm days. 8 am went to the shop pick up the flatbed straight truck. Did a full pre trip and filled the necessary fluid, and headed down the road 30 miles to pick up some motors. Went into see the shipper and he told me that it will take about 1 hour as they are waiting for some propane for there fork truck. I said, "no problem i will be in the sleeper until your ready". 11 am ready to roll and pick up another 75 miles away. Noon I dropped by my house for a lunch and took something out for supper. 2pm make my 2nd pickup and headed back to the shop for 4pm. The day flew by. Here is the pay difference for me from now on the clock versus my cpm days. .32 cpm x 140 miles $44.80 plus second pick paid $20 form my old otr company=$64.80 On the clock with my new company 8hr x $20= $160. I made over double what I could make in the same time period

I don't know, Evinrude. If it takes you all day to run 140 miles otr something is wrong. :? At 65 mph you could cover 140 miles in about 2.15 hrs. There doesn't seem to be much difference in the pay when you break it down. $64.80/2.15 hrs =$30.14/hr (with the drop pay). If you just take the miles you are talking about $44.80/2.15 hrs = $20.84/hr. If you run for 8 hours at 65 mph your mileage pay would come to $166.72 for the same 8 hours. Add the $20 stop pay and you are at $186.72. Of course, I didn't count the time to make the drop. I just like to compare apples to apples when making comparisons. Not to put your local job down. I am sure it is a good job. I am glad you found something more to your liking.

When was OTR i would drop and reload in about 6 hours and sometimes be sent road for 500 miles with a 48 hour later appointment time. Man I hoping mad when then happens. I figured those trip to about $ 3.00 per hour I just like to compare apples to apples when making comparisons. Not to put your local job down. I am sure it is a good job. I am glad you found something more to your liking. Your right about the mileage pay, when I was loaded and on the road the pay was good. But every day in a half I had to load and reload for cpm and for the most part that day didn't pay well. Sometimes I didn't make enough to eat.

His wait time gets logged at maybe 30 minutes...15 to check-in and swing the doors open and 15 to check-out. So when he sits there for 2+ hours, he's thinking that he's only working 30 minutes and then divides his drop-pay by that. These people are in a different world because their time means nothing to them. All they know is speed averaging everything on the logbook and 15 minute intervals on line 4....and then claim to "only" work 70 hours per week straight-time with no OT. It's like living in the Matrix. Once you unhook yourself from the OTR Mileage Matrix and go hourly, you finally figure out what a ripoff OTR is and how much of your life you donate away to these motor carriers for nothing. And then you laugh when you hear these guys bragging over the CB, lunch counter, and internet forums about all the money they're making on the highpay highway.

Weren't you all some of the ones who were complaining about trucks being governed so that you could not average 65 mph or whatever your truck was set? And if your truck was set at a lower speed that you could not make as much money? Weren't you all saying in your posts that you could basically average what the truck would max out on a day in and day out basis of driving?
Some carriers will sit more than others. If a driver is frequently late then a dispatcher will probably allow for his tardiness. If a driver is always on time, then that is also taken into consideration. I have no idea of your situation. There are good carriers and bad ones, just like drivers. You didn't like otr so you left and got yourself a local job. And as far as my personal situation I have never advocated more miles for more pay, that is why I pay my drivers percentage. When you are compensated by the miles you run then you will need to run more miles to make more money.
