Ahh - dump trailer and fly ash - been there / done that!
The most important thing you need to be aware of is dumping. Make sure you go with an experienced driver a couple times so they can teach you the proper way to dump. I've seen too many dump trailers tip over while dumping. Fly ash will stick in the bed sometimes, and that will lead you to tip over. You have to be sure your trailer and truck are absolutely level before dumping.

you using 2 cylinder end dump or a 1 cylinder?
If you're using a 1 it has to be FLAT where you're dumping or you have a very good chance at flipping it. 2 cylinders are much more stable and you have a little more leeway

Make sure you have some sort of breathing apparatus. I used to haul flyash out of powerplants in end dumps. It would take all of 2 minutes to dump and be on your way again. I know they haul it with bulk tanks also which I have no idea about.
If they are end dumps make sure the tarp and end caps are in good shape. You don't want any of that ash blowing out of the trailer while driving out of the road or you will get an unsecured load ticket. Also that flyash in end dump trailer sloshes around like a liquid. You don't want to make any sudden stops or it will surge to the front of the trailer and find any and all escape routes out and cover the cab of your truck. Just for comparison I hauled coal into the power plants and fly ash out and averaged $18.75 an hour. Good luck with it.

i guess that is true but i think the diff. wouldnt be that much. I never even seen a double cylinder set up on a dump trailer. Ask me just more useless weight. The only thing i see doubles on is roll-offs.

I rode by the shop where that keep the trucks and all I saw were dump trailers so as I suspected dump, not tanker. The owner said he will ride with me for a few days ( if i get the job) and I will be glad for that.
Should hear from him tomorrow. |
