Default Freightliner Coronado; good truck?

Was looking at Freightliner's website and on Truck Paper the other day at the Freightliner Coronado. Those are pretty sharp looking trucks! Anyone else agree or disagree and what's your opinions of them? 8)

Default Coronado

Yea, I think it looks nice. But I still would prefer the Classic XL myself. It is just sharp inside and out to me. Oh well, it looks like I will have to make do with a Columbia as I amgoing to go with GTI if everything goes through OK.

The Coronado is a nice truck. I drive one every day, it's roomy, rides very well down the road and has a lot of nice driver comfort features. On the down side I have found on the '05 that I drive. There are many rattles which are typical of a Freightliner and I have intermittent problems with the water temp gage and the fuel level gage not working or giving false readings. Also the drivers door is sagging, and you have to slam it hard to get the door to shut. This is all on a truck that only has 248,885 miles on it. My '01 Pete 379 with over 600,000 miles was a better truck in terms of the negatives I have stated. Also the windshield has leaked at the center division of each side since the '05 was new and still leaks after having the glass replaced.

The Century Class that I drove had a BAD leaky windshield despite the fact it had been replaced at least seven times. In fact when you drove in a heavy rain you'd better have an umbrella handy!

The Coronado, Century Class and Columbia's are all basically the same truck. The differences are trim levels, gauge packages, wheel bases and accessories for the most part. I definitely agree with the "rattle box" factor. I'd like to say that I would never own one of these because of the lack of quality on these trucks in some areas but if I was going to buy a truck I would have to consider them because of the deals you can get in the used market. You can find one of these a few years old in good condition for a great price. 8) 8)

The Coronado looks pretty nice, but if I was looking for an O/O truck I'd take the International 9900ix or even a 9400i Eagle.

Aren't they much heavier than a comparable Columbia ?

You seriously think the classic's(any fld) has a sharp interior???wow, I mean seriously? Green gauges and hard black/grey non contoured abs plastic. They don't even illuminate have the dash not even the climate control.

I don't like the Looks of the Coronado.. Personal opinion only.
Reminds me too much of the mid-late 70s automobile styling fiascos:
Just about any car came out o the factory looking trim, classy up until what - 74/75? Suddenly, it wasn't just More chrome/trim - it got just goofy lookin'... mainly Chrysler/Dodge.. but GM wound up involved in it too.
I don' like the trim on the Coronado.. that running board from steers back to drivers looks clumsy and adds to this overloaded look. Almost looks like the side boxes, etc, are "how many more 'doodads' can I put on here?" style, spesh with that running board running under it all - I mean - I see those old long cars from the '20s/'30s with all the family possessions lashed on there in an exodus to Cali during the Dust Bowl... Uhh.
But recognize that I'm no Fan of the 'Runningboard Fairings' look either.
That's what Flatbedding'll do to ya.
While I'm at it?
Anybody notice that the new Headlamp Pods on the new Petes look way too dang close to Aunt Edna's cheesy cat eye glasses with the string around her neck thing? :? You almost expect to see rhinestones out on the ends....
And when will the Auto Makers realize that all their Swoopy and Aerodynamic headlamp assemblies with their Plastic Lens/Covers and their cool twist-in-from-the-dirty-backside-0-the-housing lamps start to go bad in only months from scratches/ozone/roadsplash/acidrain/whatever...I mean, even cleaning them with a quick wipe o the Handy Rag begins a process o deterioration o the plastic that eventually diffuses the light from the highest Tech Lamp Bulbs, looks like feces, and costs like rip to replace... (something a Fleet doesn't want to do, and something too many O/Os can't afford to do..)
Beetch beetch beetch...
I mean, you can clean the glass sealed-beams with sandpaper if ya have to - and still be good to go. Right up until the lamp expires..

Style.
I know - it's just another type o "Fashion".. and we all know what happens to Fashion just about every quarter. But man. Things were pretty good up to now.
And from what I've seen of the new Cornbinders they're comin' out with... this whole Chrome Is King Thing is something that Automotive Designers should stay the hell away from... and leave such things to the better taste I've seen from The Drivers out here.
Ever notice that the ChromeShopMafia, et al, with all the resources THEY have... they never trash up a truck as badly as the Manufacturers will?! LOL

No Coronado for me.
And while I drive a 06/07 PreBan Intnl now - their Design Team has just got on my Bad Side. :borg:
