You did the right thing. If you are not comfortable with the situation, getting to a safe place and parking is always the best move...reqardless of what some college edikated kid wants to think.

It is one big plus for Watkins Shepard .. they never pressured me to make a load due to weather.
BTW) My thought is that a one-truck accident was not my biggest worry. I could drive slow and keep the rubber (well sometimes chained rubber) side down. However ... sharing the road with less than responsible idiots was a major headache. Often the decider to park rather than take the risk. I mentioned this accident previously, but an idiot running 70 MPH in and out of traffic during an ice storm on the summit between Primm NV and California caused a Watkins Motor Freight to lock 'em up and shut the freeway down for 12 hours. The Watkins Motor freight guy was only doing 25 MPH and was really careful but .. well it only takes one idiot .. he was loaded heavy in the back and the back pup came around when this idiot spun directly in front of the truck. You all be careful now ...

They won't serve "his" time for a fatality, but as long as he talked to dispatch on a phone that has time dates of conversations with dispatcher's....the dispatchers and management will serve time in the cell's next to his. All he needs to do is tell DOT that he was forced by dispatcher..and threatened with job loss.... phone records will back up times...and yes...They will check.
You made the right choice. Stay put until the road clear. YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF THE TRUCK, NOT DISPATCH!

At least you ain't got 2 inches of ice sitting in your driveway. Think I will stay home where it's a nice and cozy 85 degrees in here. Traffic reports are saying that a lot of the roads south of Washington are nearly inpassable with trees, powerlines and wrecked cars in the roads. Even 95 is quite messed up apparently.

if its a big company they got trucks parked all over.i hear some of those eastern states dont like chains.i would think about chaining once most of the crashes are done if i had a load to pick up.
i know when i started some people didnt make it thru the first winter.i dont think the dispatchers lost any sleep over it tho. some thing happens and they say its your fault because you did not park it.

My school instructor says that in snow and ice, if you have to chain it the truck don't roll.
