There's been many, many, many reviews/discussions on the various gps options available out there.

Myself, I use CoPilot and Microsoft Streets & Trips.

You have heard to old adage, Opinions are like a------s, every one has one, and they all stink! In my opinion you can't go wrong with a Garmin c330, or any of the other Garmin products. I just purchased the Garmin nuvi 660 and as soon as the new Garmin nuvi 680 is released in April I will buy that. I have found the stand alone GPS units to be, hands down, superior to any computer based program. Just my opinion!

The only problem I have with the standalone units, especially the high end ones, is this: spending that much money on something that will basically do 1 thing (other than the ones that will also play mp3s or have XM). Instead, my laptop with a gps app is sooooooo much more.

The laptop version is ok but its really hard to look over at a laptop while driving to follow the map, unless you mount the laptop on your dashboard.
I use a Cobra NavOne 2500 and it works great. Hell I didnt even trust what it was telling me at first, and it turns out it was right and I was wrong. I guess because the femal voice on the Cobra reminded me of my wife giving directions

I used a "drillless" Ram mount attached to the passenger seat bolts. This laptop setup worked very very well.

I am not impressed with Co-Pilot.

Just because software emphatically states "For truckers" and markets itself as such .. it does not mean that it is useful for the trucker.

I see the mission as twofold. First, routing, Can I make it from the receiver, shipper and the next consignee on time? What routes? Now I check weather/construction along the routes. What are my other options? Where are the best places to stop and when?

Now that I know I can accept the load the question becomes .. how do I navigate from the highway to the shipper and the consignee?

Co-Pilot routes trucks along the national network, In general the interstates and US highways and these do not change very often. They also program prohibited roads the same information in the Atlas.

Navigation is different. Co-Pilot does not research local truck routes and more importantly navigation requires updated maps. Local roads change much more often than the interstates.

Thus in my opinion Co-Pilot makes fair routing program and a horrible navigation program. I like ProMiles as a routing program.

1. With Co-Pilot A school POI is just as interesting as a truck stop or more importantly Scales! . Not very useful or user friendly. Pro-miles predominately displays POI's interesting to truckers like Truck Stops, Scales, rest areas etc. BTW) Co-Pilot has lots of "Truck Parking" POI's that have no truck parking.

2. The Co-Pilot GPS database is not updated regularly. In addition I found anywhere to 1/4 plus errors between the address and the actual location. Garmin had a much more accurate map.

If Co-Pilot actually had a navigation truck route database as opposed to simply routing the national network , I would then recommend Co-pilot. Until then .. The Garmin, Tom/Tom Magellan are much better options and value,.
