I don't know what the back story is on that matter, even if there really is a back story, or if this is just an Urban Ledgend!!But I do know that LDS does invest in different companies, and it is very active in real estate investment as well.

I'm no fan of The Mormon Church, and I'm sure as Hell no fan of CRE, but if the LDS Church saw an investment opportunity in a company or a corporation, especially one that is directed by Mormons, then it seems reasonable enough that they would pursue it.
Reason why I ask is to squelch a half truth. In no way shape or form Would that church invest in that company or any other company. Now a member that might have capital to invest might do so. Much like a Baptist might invest in Covanant trucking but not the Baptist church. So thats a falsehood. Now the owner I have heard was Excomunicated from the Church But I don't know if thats true or not.

Why not??

One of my stock brokers is a Bishop in The Mormon Church; (he was the one who got me interested in LDS!!) he has told me otherwise. He did not go into any specifics, and that is as it should be!! The LDS Church is invested in many different venues of enterprise; while their dealings are held in confidence, it is known that LDS has very extensive Real Estate Holdings. Thee are other investments that are matters of public record. It is also known that The Church Priests, or Elders, or whatever title they hold, are reputed to be some of the best investment advisors around!! Legally, there is nothing wrong with this. Ethically??? It is debatable, but I could develop very compelling arguments on either side of that fence.

Certainly, if other Churches are allowed to pursue investment programs, as many of them do, then there should be nothing to preclude LDS from doing the same!!

I know nothing of that matter, or if there is any truth to it at all!!!

In any event, this thread is supposed to be about CRE; sorry, I've helped vector us off topic!!

I knew a guy who drove for them back in the mid 90's and loved it. He told me of a load once going to a Canadian island near Maine to pick up potatoes. Ferry in and ferry out ($1200).

He left CRE to take a local job.

No i can not, i have no knowledge of England or the LDS dealings, however, the story was told by Dan England. He was giving a speech on how his father Chester England got started and how the company got to where it is today. My information is based on what one of the owners said, and it was a great place to work back in the 80's.

Here is just a few of the investments the LDS owns through their for-profit management company Deseret Management Corporation

Beneficial Financial Group
Bonneville International Corporation
Deseret Book
Hawaii Reserves
Temple Square Hospitality
Zions Securities
Farm Management Co
Deseret Cattle and Citrus Ranch

That is just a few of the hundreds of for profit companies owned by the LDS.

Just to set the records straight.

My Hubby just started with C.R. England, and "So Far" we have had a Good experience, and it seems to be a good fit.
If anything happens differently, then we'll just go with it.
This biz I take it, is a "Roll with the Punches" type of Industry, for drivers, that is.

That it is, and the highways are littered with crybabies and stubborn know-it-all types who would not adapt. You'll see your share of them here at CAD, and other boards too!!

In any event, our prayers are with you and D/H!!!
