Default hazmat question

I may apply for a freight company this year and I know most require a hazmat. Just wondering how do I get this endorsement? just read the book take the written test type thing? Do you have to pay to take the test? Just wondering how hard the test is also. I live in MN if it makes any difference. Thanks in advance.

You will have to take a written test and pass a fingerprint based background check.

There will be a fee for both the test and another one for the background check.

Once you pass both you will get the endorsement on your CDL.

The haz mat test is the longest of the endorsement exams. It is harder but easy to pass if you know your stuff. There are several sites online where you can take free practice tests.

My husband just added it to his. We are in Ohio. It was $94 for the fingerprint/background check. There was no fee to take the test but $42 to get a new license listing the endorsement when the background check came back ok.

Dont get the hazmat unless you are certain you will need it for the co. you will be driving for, since you have to retake it every 2 years.
