Don't go through between 6am and 10am or 2pm and 6pm. If you do it will be a long wait in traffic. I left Torrance at 4:30pm and got to Barstow at 11pm on a Friday night (130 miles).
Show your bills at the bug station when you enter the state. Don't stop at the TA's on I-10 in Ontario. Trucks only in right 2 lanes in California........3rd lane will get you a big ticket. Keep your space.....Traffic comes to a stop when you least expect it. Don't miss the truck route when you get on the 5 north. The scale on 5 pops up quick too. If you need to stop and wait, stop east of the city in Coachilla or around there where the truck stops are. If you are coming in on the 10 you need to jump on the 15 to get to the 210........The 210 ends at the 5 Last edited by Scottt; 02-14-2009 at 04:31 PM.

oh yeah, the petro in wheeler ridge, ca, is the best! make sure to take the laval road west exit from the 5. there is always parking available in there, too. it's on the north side of the grapevine. be sure to go the speed limit down the hill. there are always panda bears waiting for some fool to blast down the hill.
on the 99, if you're going to pass somebody, don't do it going more than 60mph for too long. there'll be an unmarked squad car somewhere along the way. if he or she decides to go after you, you're screwed. there will be no warning issued. you'll be getting a ticket.

kevin, are you going to kraft, delivering some paper to some place on jenson, dropping a trailer off at the central freight terminal on central ave, or going to some place that's just south of highway 41? i know fresno quite well since i lived there for 8 years and was also a pizza delivery driver in that city. i know all the nooks and crannies of that city. it's too bad, though, that fresno has a LOT of restricted roads.
whatever you do, if you decide to stay at the truck stop at highway 99 and herndon, make sure that you do NOT park in the back row. if you do, and it's night time, don't even get out of your truck. you'll be propositioned by male hookers. i will be sure to stop east of the city and not go thru during said times. would like to go thru at midnight or later. will have to hit that truck stop mentioned....

klein's truck stop is on the north side of fresno. you'll wanna stay out of south-west, south-central, and south-east fresno. you can park at the central freight lines hub on chestnut, though. it's a secured lot and there's a small diner 1/2 mile north. dunno about the quality of food, however. fresno cops are a-holes. especially the motorcycle riding ones. if you're unlucky, one or two might even follow you, trying to desperately find a reason to stop you, and write you up for something.

any good bowling centers in the area? i've got my balls in the truck, and if the lot is big enough and in a good part of town, i'd just park it there.
I've found myself driving at night, around 11p into the early morning hours. I drove I-10 west of Houston around Katy, and there wasnt a soul on the road. and thats a 4 lane interstate. And i know how traffic can come to a sudden stop. I dont care who i piss off behind me, i still keep 5-10 seconds of following distance, or 3-4 lengths of truck between me and whoever is in front of me. The 'big rock in a small stream" effect where everything just flows around me. anybody frequent the Fresno area know of a good diner with food to die for??

Exit 77 off of I-10 will take you on to SR 30, up through the Redlands, and after 11 miles, it turns into 210. No need to get onto 15 at all. In fact, that's kind of a bass-ackwards way of getting onto the Foothill Fwy going all the way to the 15.

like i said, kevin, i lived in fresno for 8 years. i still have family who lives there, and that's where i spent last christmas. there's a bowling alley on blackstone, on the north-east corner of blackstone & sierra. however, it is NOT truck viable. you MIGHT be able to park on sierra between fresno st. and blackstone. i don't remember seeing any "no truck parking" signs posted. the best route to get to sierra will be to take highway 99 to the 180 east (toward kings canyon), exit on to the 41 north, exit on herndon, go west to blackstone (first major street), go south a traffic light, turn east on sierra, and find a place where you can park it along the curb. or, you can go north on herndon from 41, turn south on fresno st, and then turn west on sierra. there's also a pretty good pool hall next to the blackstone lanes. it's called diamond billiards. it's a very clean, well kept place. there's an unspoken "no knucklehead" policy in place, and it's very effective.
on a side note: don't take my word for it that you might be able to legally park there. it may have changed.

There are a few of them around the Indio area at the casinos on I-10.

Usually everywhere I go is off the 91. GPS took me down the 101 the other day. Never will I get on that freeway again. LOL REV have you ever ran to Needles by way of the 10 to Desert Center and across? I had someone tell me the other day that was a good way to go and stay out of the 15 and 40 traffic. |
