Usually everywhere I go is off the 91. GPS took me down the 101 the other day. Never will I get on that freeway again. LOL
REV have you ever ran to Needles by way of the 10 to Desert Center and across? I had someone tell me the other day that was a good way to go and stay out of the 15 and 40 traffic.

Replying to the OP-
That mileage works out to a 52 MPH average for 11 hrs. I believe AZ is 65 for trucks. Doing it in 11 should be fine. One thing I like about CA is the 12 & 16 rule. Here's a question; I run NV once in a great while. That means I'm cut back to 11 & 14. Is that just for that day? If not, for how long do I have stay in CA only before I can go back to 12 & 14. Opinions please.

The 101 is a great alternative for getting up to the Bay area. About 20 miles North of Buttonwillow on I-5, you'll see the Loves truck stop, which is Hwy 46. Take that West over the hills to the 101 North. Not a lot of traffic, 4 lanes, and it dumps you off right by the 680/880 on the south side of San Jose. Great road, and a little shorter than taking the 5 all the way up to the 205/580. And none of that lousy traffic on those two roads. 101 is a beautiful drive though. I'm loaded from Eureka to Santa Barbara right now. I'll leave tomorrow morning so I can enjpy the scenery during the daylight.

When you get close to Indio Look for the Golf Center Pky. Get off there, make a right, then another right onto Indio Springs Dr, there is a bowling center, and casino there. Fantasy Springs Casino  I have been there before it is a pritty cool place to hang out for a few hours waiting for traffic to let up  Like Rev.Vassago, said take the exit in Redlands, to catch the 210. There is nothing west of there but problums. The 30 to the 210 to the 5 is your best and fastest route. Traffic gets a little heavy in Pasadena where the junction of 134/210 is, make shure you are in the right lane, there is a lot of idiot drivers in that area. Also like Rev said where the 210 and the 5 meet up. that is where you will find the most traffic, but going through late will make a differance

kinda hijacked that thread, sorry OP.
also what about that CA law where you cannot be over 70 ft in length or something? ill look it up in the atlas, but thought there was some law that governed overall length of vehicle.

nose of the trailer to the center of your rear axle on the trailer no more than 40 feet. I think that is how it is I just leave my axles slid all the way to the front of my trailer on our 53 footers

Some highways are 65 ft OA.
Like 101 north of Legget. Where I semi-regularly see Swift or other mega-carrier trucks sitting because they got measured.

Its been awhile since I was in CA but when I used to run that way and was heading up 99 to Bakersfield and points north I used to bypass LaLa Land altogether and run up through Tehachipi and down onto 99. Is that not a good route anymore? Always a lot less traffic up there.
