Those guys you see driving down the road with their landing gear hanging low are the same ones you can thank for leaving a dropped trailer sit with something wrong with it also. i.e. flat tire, lights not working, etc. Why? because they are the same ones that are too lazy to walk to the back of the trailer to do a pre ot post trip.

Or too dang lazy to take it in to the shop. That is such a pet peeve of mine. Why do drivers think that it is ok to pass it on to the next driver. That relieves them from responsibility... NO! We need to work together to make the roads safer. Oh where is my soap box issedoff:

That is why I like a smaller company. We try to make sure the trailer we drop is ready to go for the next guy.

It's "women's skirts" that are SUPPOSED to flap, not landing gear cranks. A loose crank can get you pulled around back in MO.

Something new drivers might keep in mind... And, maybe the rest of us too...
After cranking up the landing gear, make sure there is tension on the crank when you put it in it's holder. Put it in low gear and give it just enough to hang it up. That will insure that it will stay in gear while you're driving. Most trailers have an area between gears that can allow the landing gear to come down on a rough road. So, even though you did crank it all the way up, you could be in for a nasty surprise half way through your trip. Without a little tension on the gears, it can get into "neutral" all by itself somewhere on the road. I have had that happen, but I noticed the landing gear had gone down slightly when I stopped for fuel. You can generally, when you get the landing gear all the way up, put it in low gear and give it another quarter to half turn. and hang it up.
