How to bring back Teamsters....

Geeshock you saying union men are lazy is like me saying OTR guys are dirty filthy "dooshbags" who dont shower, pizz in bottles, and run around in pajama pants, wife beater tees and flip flops. But I didnt say you're all that way, just some of you. And you thinking a guy driving a day cab cant park in a rest area is as stupid as a guy pulling doubles saying that a van driver cant park at the fuel island unless they really need fuel. They should use a parking spot and leave the pull thru spots for guys with doubles. For now on, anybody who has to park his truck should announce on the CB what his intentions are and why and see if everyone else approves of his plan. Or if you guys dont like that idea what about if we just call Geeshock first and see if HE needs that spot? Geeshock whats your number bro? Post it up for us!
I actually believe in helping my fellow man, yes even you union drivers. If a fellow driver is doing well I'm not going to kick him/her off that route because I'm more senior. I'm one of those that WILL give up my space if a driver needs it more than me. My opinion of unions is just that, right or wrong, it's mine. If you don't care for it well, you know what you can do, lol.

Musicman you can take your intellectual mumbo jumbo somewhere else dude. It aint workin here. You and your daddy are so much smarter than all of us yet he's an auto worker and you're a truckdriver! HAHAHA! The economy is one big totem pole my friend. Its all relative to where you are at on it. Workin hard for the man dont matter when the man aint playing fair. Like I told you everyone of these companies would screw you in a heartbeat. You know it and I know it. As far as a senior man taking your run well thats just the rules thats all. Its the rules we voted on and the rules we want. That man wasnt born at the top. He worked many many years for it. It beats losing your run to the boss's nephew or the biggest azz kisser now doesnt it. Look guys, I dont care if you go union or not. Just quit working for peanuts! and take off them damn pajama pants! No wait....dont do that....

Did someone mention Line 5??? :lol2:
I TRIED to stay away from this one, because I really AM a Centrist and I see BOTH points of view on the Union thing. There were some points I wanted to debate back on page 1 or 2, but the ****ty format of the board makes that more difficult since IB took over. (I wonder if THEY are union?) I have to say, I enjoyed Musicman's intellectual mumbo jumbo post.... until point (3). And THAT little miscalculation spawned much of the last 2 pages. Daycab LINEHAUL drivers who take a nap are NOT stealing from their companies!! MOST linehaul "runs" have an ETA that allows for several extra hours to complete. The driver probably won't get out again until the next morning (or night) once he GETS to his terminal. He IS getting paid by the mile and has TIME to take a nap IF NEEDED. Most importantly folks.... if a driver NEEDS a power nap to be SAFE.... it benefits ALL of us for him to take that nap! But HERE is where the debate went to HE!L and I got REALLY pizzed off! Geeshock said:
All those spaces at the rest areas, or truckstops, are areas that truck drivers that NEED them should be able to have to get a MANDATORY 10 hours. I don't cry if I see a union daycab with someone eating a meal, or even a union truck with a sleeper since they might be useing it to get a mandatory break but to see SO MANY daycabs, union or otherwise, parked and I'm at the end of my 11 hours makes me wanna blow a head gasket.
Truck Stops are for spending your NIGHT in! I can't remember the times I've been out on the road with DOUBLES (that means I need a PULL THRU) and I need to take a bathroom break.... but, OH NO!!! NOT happening because of all the SOLO "day drivers" that think they DESERVE to tie up all the spots in the Rest Areas for their "mandatory" break! :eek2: So... IF I can hold it until the next truckstop, I waste 15 mins getting in and out JUST to find that all the PULL THRU spots are taken by LAZY friggin truck drivers with 53'ers that won't take the TIME to back into a space and LEAVE the pull thru's for the DOUBLE's that they were DESIGNED for!!! issedoff: Are you gettin my drift?? YOU "guys" have no RIGHT to tie up rest area "pull thrus" for a whole 10 hour break... and MANY of them are starting to post SIGNS prohibiting it! :crossbones: I can't effin BELIEVE that some guys have the gall to complain about a linehaul (doubles) driver... who doesn't even HAVE a sleeper.... that takes a NAP in a REST AREA!! [and ACCUSE him of stealing pay!] WHO TOLD you guys that REST AREAS were designed for you to take your 10 hour breaks in? Now.... turnpike plaza's are a different animal... BECAUSE they have no OTHER "rest areas!" ... AND they usually have built in the needed spots for "overnighters." But on a normal Interstate highway.... rest areas are for SHORT rest breaks! Okay.... rant over! In general I agree with almost everything Snowman had to say. (I got your BACK, dude!) and I ain't EVEN a union employee. That doesn't mean I don't agree with MUCH of what OTHERS have posted, one way or the other. I've been impressed by MANY of the opinions on this thread. But, one more thing. I drive a TEAM linehaul dedicated "daily" run. SOME runs are just too far away for ONE driver (in a daycab) to complete within 11 driving hours. So... IF my "sleeper cab" truck happens to BE in a plaza or rest area for 15 minutes or so in the wee hours of the morning.... it is because "I" am taking up the sleeper to get the only sleep I GET every night.... and my co-driver NEEDS a little power nap to get us to the "butthead" SAFELY! But, come 8 pm ... when "I" need to visit the restroom (in a REST AREA) I REALLY wish all the "SOLAR SOLO drivers" would park their trucks in a TRUCK STOP... or on a RAMP (if legal) and NOT TIE UP the spots in rest areas that are NOT "designed" for their selfish purposes! :hellno:

Gee, guess I better stop taking my lunch breaks in rest areas. Some OTR driver might get PO'd that I took his spot. By the way, I am non-union, non-hourly daycab driver.

Hey Golfhobo,
I agree with you post except for this:
Truck Stops are for spending your NIGHT in! I can't remember the times I've been out on the road with DOUBLES (that means I need a PULL THRU) and I need to take a bathroom break.... but, OH NO!!! NOT happening because of all the SOLO "day drivers" that think they DESERVE to tie up all the spots in the Rest Areas for their "mandatory" break! :eek2:
Take for example my area(Pittsburgh). There are no truckstops around here. The rest area on I79 at the 50 fills up quick with sleepers. These drivers have no choice but to park there for breaks. Thank the NIMBYs for that one! Next time, just pull behind them, throw the four ways on and run in and do your business. Done that one many times when rest areas were filled up. |
