how to mount laptop / GPS in your cab ?
I know how people put laptop in passenger vehicle and use it as gps, but where do you put it in your tractor or how do you mount the supporting arm ?

There is a company who makes a floor mounted unit for a laptop. I don't recall whether it was on this site or OOIDA, but someone had a link in a posting. You may do a search to see if you can find it. If you are a member of OOIDA, you could do a search on their forum.

There's a couple different ones available:
http://www.cybertrucker.net/index.php http://www.dieselboss.com/stand.htm http://www.mobilelaptopmount.com/indexBB.htm Myself, because I have a full-time passenger, am going to buy this: http://www.xenarc.com/product/700ts.html The main reason is the space savings for the passenger, so she doesn't have to move the laptop every time she needs to get into the sleeper. I'll mount the 7" screen to the sun-visor, then I can just fold it down when I need to see the gps display. Will also get a wireless keyboard.

I just installed the Ram mount in my truck. Took me about 15 minutes. I will take a few pictures of it and post them later today.

The following is where I bought my laptop mount system and for a small fraction of the price the others cost. I mounted it to the floor by unscrewing the front inside bolt of the passenger seat, slipping the predrilled floor flange that comes with the mount system under it, and then tightening the bolt back down. It's solid as a rock.
Also, the mount comes with a quick disconnect, which allows you to remove the stand when not in use without having to unscrew the bolt in order to remove the flange. http://www.mobilelaptopmount.com/

I like that last one - mobilelaptopmount.com - if you look at the pictures close, you'll see how it's built.
It's all 1/2" galvenized pipe, which you can buy at any local hardware store. Including the mounting flange. The quick disconnect is an air-line quick disconnect. |
