 I was born in a sleeper of a long nose Red Dot going across Hwy.40. I started driving at 12, and started getting paid for it when I turned 20 in`72 as a bed bugger for Mayflower. Done most jobs except, Bull hauler, Low boys and swinging meat! I retired last year do to all the mistakes I`ve made over the years, such as: blowing out the long head tendon in my right arm, by moving a stack of plastic pallets just a bit ( done it a million times ), bending and lifting freight a billion times leaving my lower back a broken mess, jumping off docks and trailers/trucks resulting in a total knee replacement that didnt heel right. But on the other hand Trucking has been Very Good to me, and its the only thing I ever wanted to do!. If I were able I`d still be driving, and one day some one would find my body where it all started, just a newer truck!  8) C-Ya.

At 17 as a Mechnic started moving them in the yard and taking them to the Dealers if needed. At 18 rode with my dad and got my CDL. Spent the next 3 years driving in the State of IL getting paid to do it then the day after I turned 21 I was headed to MI on my first out of state load. I was 15th on the totem pole at the company I was driving for at the time. Why do you think 3 months later he gave me the fastest truck in the fleet. I earned that truck.

I was 14, driving a grain truck for my uncle's farm in 1973.
Drove a 1961 international (i think) want to talk about the stone age, this was the truck!
From the amount of smoke it made, I'am sure it was steam powered!

Was 41 when I got my CDL, Am 46 now. Was some what forced and also wanted a new career after 20 years in retail management. moved to southern california in 2002 and found it difficult to land a decent paying job in my field. ( too many applicants ) Found out SOCAL is truckers mecca and went for it!! 5 years later and I'm driving fuel tankers in the inland empire area.

Funny how things turn out some times. My dad, who I barely know, has been driving for 40 years in the Denver area delivering meat. Some day I'll call and let him know.
