Aha.
Gotcha, and thanks Deus. That makes more sense to me, and is, more or less, the way I was taught oh so many years ago. I just didn't remember the 90 degree angles that are involved.
For what it's worth, I went down to the yard today to see the truck that's going to be assigned to me. It's a '97 Freightliner conventional with a Detroit engine (375 HP, I think the boss said) and a Super 10 Xmission. I haven't shifted that one before, but from what I've read here, and from lookin' at it, it seems pretty direct. I think it will remind me a little of that old 13 speed RoadRanger I drove 100 years ago. I had a converstation with my new boss, about my concerns with my backing skills, or the lack thereof. He told me not to sweat it and that it will come to me. He also said that he'd be more than happy to run down to the local truckstop with me and give me a lesson or two. Or he might let me take a run with one of the other drivers just to get my feet wet again. In either case, I'm feeling better about that first trip out. The adventure continues FriPilot |
