The guard and his helper witnessed it. Maybe that makes a difference.

I'll probably just go to an orthopedic surgeon and have him look at it, and I tell him something fell on it (but not where I was when it fell). God, what a tangled web of deception, eh ? I agree, keeping it separate from work is better. I think my insurance will pay all or most of x-rays, and an office visit copay to a specialist is only $25, have to check out what they cover for rehab.

Let's suppose I HAD reported it right away, and later on went to apply at Company X. Wouldn't Company X be concerned about my previous injury, and less likely to hire me ? If I had used workman's comp instead of my own insurance, is there a database that stores that fact?

I've heard of guys who can't get hired anywhere because they have used workman's comp.

Depends on your state as far as how long to report it. In CA you have a year to report it. Sometimes people think injuries are small and will heal themselves then find out they don't heal properly.

You're gonna need a work comp lawyer to help protect your rights. Good thing is the lawyer works on commission so you don't have to pay out of pocket.

You also run the risk of getting fired. I can guarantee you that it is a company policy to report an injury ASAP. You didn't and unwittingly violated a policy.

I've seen this happen before. Just make up some stupid excuse to your doctor on how you were lifting something at home and it fell on you.

When I was 19, I hurt my back at work and ended up needing surgery to repair herniated discs in my lower back. I was fully healed within 4 months of surgery.

I never had trouble getting hired at any job after that. As far as I know, of course.

I've had to use workmens comp a few times over the years and have never had a problem getting jobs. In fact I just broke my arm in 2 places monday when I fell off my load while tarpping. The company had no problems filling out the paperwork for me to make sure it was done right. No company LIKES having employees on workers comp, but they like it even less if you can't do your job because you got hurt, wether at work or home.
