Ya i talked to a recruiter "tammy" i belive.. and they have there own student school now run by IDC.. or you can go to a school local and they reimburse.. or you go to there school and they upfront all the costs to obtain your cdl..
The school they use is mesalands comunity college in tucamcari NM, you will be sent there for 5 weeks of cdl school then come back to WA to obtain your CDL and then go out to the 7 weeks TE training.. so i have heard so far...

Well if that's true I stand corrected, but I will say this there is no way in hell I would train for 7 weeks driving around with three people in the truck!!!!!! Two is to many but three?!?! And it wouldn't make the least bit of difference where the trainer slept. Also, how do you train as a team when you have to stop the truck every night so the trainer can get a room? Doesn't make sense.

All good points and I will ask questions to find out exactly how they do it. I agree, 3 in a cab would get boring and uncomfortable, but they still can drive for 13.75 hrs together just as I've done with my trainer to make a timely delivery.

Just out of curiousity I wonder how they rig it so that the third person can comply with seatbelt laws since there isn't a third seat?

Ya know, I've read this thread, and given it some thought! :|
Having 2 students in the truck, would actually make for some great miles...and could actually be done quite easily & legally. The trainer though...would be in for some serious "sore butt". Scenerio for training; Driver #1; Wife, begins trip from terminal, drives to load point & completes loading (say 3 hours total), drives to TS and scales out load for axle weights, then starts trip OTR (another hour). Driver #1 drives for 6 hours, for a total of 10 hours on-duty. Driver #2; Husband, whom has been in "Sleeper-berth" for 8 hours, begins driving, after doing a 15 minute pre-trip, and drives for 10 hours, at which point, truck is parked for an 10 hour period, to enable "Trainer" to take break in Motel room. "Team" can shower and whut-not. Heck..as long as the truck is in a "tourist" area, Hubby & Wife can do some "site-seeing"  , while trainer is snoring!! Remember; The "Driver-trainer" can log as many "On-duty not driving hours" as he/she wants, as long as he/she does not drive, after being "Onduty" more than 14 hours, with out taking a 10 hour off duty break.   I think I need to move back to the Northwest...be a "Driver-trainer" for Interstate!!!

Hey Orangetxguy, you nailed it precisely. That's how it's done.
As for the seatbelt question, there's a seatbelt and or net on all the lower and upper bunks on IDC's rigs. Can't say I would want to sleep in the upper bunk while rolling down the road, but that's already been a topic here before.

IDC also has a terminal in Tucumcari.

I was told by the recruiter that if you go to Tucamcari school that is there school they send you to.. they will give you the money up front to pay for you to go school/hotel/books etc etc.. then when you are out with your truck after TE they start taking money out of your pay for the loan they gave you to go to school.. then they will repay it back to you in quarters at 750$..so its kinda like you get reimbursed for the school you did not pay for.. but you will have paid 4k after 2.5 years but you will have also got it paid back to you, so long story short i belive if you stay the full 2.5 you will have gotten there school for free, and any time you leave before that is just that much you are not gonna get given back, but also that much you wont have gotten taken out since no contract.
Anyone correct me if i explained this wrong i am just going on how i understood it on the phone. |
