Default Jessup T/A

Just wondering if they've cleaned that place up any. I have a delivery a couple miles away from there for Thursday am and am trying to decide whether to park there or just stay at the rest area just south of it. I'll be there fairly early in the day, so I'm figuring I can get a parking spot at either one.

I haven't been in that T/A for about 5 years now. I stopped one time for fuel at about noon and I couldn't wait to get the hell away from it. Still the same?

It is no longer the same as you remembered it from 5 years ago. It is worse!

I drove by today in my capacity as a local schmuck and the fuel line was almost all the way back to the interstate (1 or 2 miles) and the lot lizards were selling their wares on the cb and every idle-air spot was taken up by trucks not using it. Did I mention this was at 1pm?

Why don't you drive the 65 miles west and park in my driveway or just like 35 miles and park at RostyC's place, tell him I don't mind

It has a much different look now. They charge to park unless you buy fuel or spend a certain amount of money in the store. I think it is a bit more challenging to park. Ide Aire has taken up a lot of parking. I was up there several months ago and don't recall seeing any lot lizards. Supposedly that is one reason they closed everything in and now charge to park. Personally, I think it is all about making money.

If it's still that bad, I'll just stay at the rest area. I didn't think it'd be any better. Getting fuel to cover the parking wouldn't have been an issue, but everything else definitely is.

Thanks for the replies.

The Jessup T/A still sucks as does the rest area. The Baltimore T/A (15+/- south), while it also sucks, usually has good parking at that time of day. If you like seafood, park there, walk across the street in front of the bus terminal and head up the hill, maybe a block and a half. There's a great little "local". I can't think of the name but you can't miss it. My first impression was a sports bar but it also has a great menu in general, with several excellent, local fish and crab dishes plus soft shell crabs, in season. I've been there 3 or 4 times and was headed there the Sunday after Thanksgiving when the 95 traffic got the better of me. I rank it very highly among my top 10 best finds.

I will say one positive thing about the TA in Jessup. It was much cleaner when I stopped a few months ago.

The Baltimore T/A is NORTH of that craphole in Jessup. And thanks for the tip on the seafood place. Might have to try it one day.

I don't think the TA in Baltimore is much, if any, better than the one in Jessup. You pay to park at both. I suppose the one in Baltimore is a little better laid out for parking. The seafood does sound good. The problem with both of these locations is that you have little choice. There aren't any decent truck stops near those areas. It would help if they could build a least one or two more truck stops in the area. It probably is a little easier to get in and out of the one in Baltimore. Getting in and out of Jessup can be a nightmare.

Both locations can be a PIA to get in and out of. Yup, there is not much in that area in the way of truck stops. Now, if you "snoop around" enough, you can find some alternative places to park.

I try to find an alternate place to park when I am in the area. I used to frequent that area a lot. When I get up there now I can usually get in and out the same day, if I am lucky. Sometimes I can stay at the receiver or shipper. It sometimes takes a little creativity to find a decent parking spot. I try to time it where I can get back to I-81 to park. There are a several truck stops on 81. That is usually close enough to get in or out of Baltimore or the DC area. If I know that I am heading further north I may try to make it to Northeast, MD at the Flying J. Parking can be a challenge at that location in the back.
