Default Linehaul Questions

I started trucking 10 months ago. I have a linehaul job, which I generally like. Apparently I am lucky to have a local job right out of the gate.

I want to know how typical my job is and whether I should look for something better, now that I have some experience.

My schedule is approx 5 pm to 3 am for the driving part. My route is 585 miles round trip, and I go from Reading, Pa up to southern mass, lots of traffic.

I work Mon thru Fri. I get $190 for each trip I make, which comes out to 32 cents per mile, or $19 an hour.

Is 585 a lot of miles for a linehaul job? Is 32 cents a mile about right ?

Anyone know any companies doing linehaul out of the Allentown, Pa area ?

Thanks,

Night Zombie

Sounds decent. The hours are actually pretty good for linehaul. A lot of LH is done overnight, but getting off by 0300 isn't too shabby. I'm sure the traffic the first couple of hours suck.

Thats a good Linehaul....I do LH also, but I'm gone mon-fri running Vegas to northern Az. 585 round is a nice short run, be happy with it.

I'll bet you'll be a happy camper when(or if) they finish the Hoover Dam bypass bridge. I heard it was delayed a year or so because of some problems.

I used to run that area. 585 miles in 10 hours plus drop and hook to your backhaul?!?!? No way you're gonna average more than 58.5 mph on those roads.

After you get your year I would check out Pitt-Ohio express. Not quit sure what kind of school you went to. They require 2 years of exp... Or 1 year and a accredible school. I work a dedicated account with them and it is Mon-Fri Start time is 9pm. They seem like a really good company and start there drivers at around .44 cpm. Home every day. They have a terminal around your area somewhere. BOL

Honestly it doesn't sound like a bad job to start out with. If you would compare it to the typical LTL/Linehaul, no thats very good money, but don't get me wrong 190 a day isn't bad but you could make more.

Most linehaul jobs start in the .38-.44 cpm and top out in the mid .50's (company's like Conway,Roadway,Yellow,UPSF,)

Hey guys thanks for the replies and the info.

Yeah, a Ward line haul driver posted somehwere that he makes .51 per mile, and drives only 410 miles round trip per day. That means he makes more money than me and drives 175 miles less to do so !!

I know, I'm new and lucky to have a decent job right off the bat. But I'm always looking for the next step !

Bandits44x, I'd rather not divulge the name of my employer.

But why do you ask about Ashley ??
