Default Maverick

I drove for Maverick for 10 months, then had to leave for 2 months due to family reasons.I drove for another company for three weeks.I left them due they wanted me to run illegel loads.I was under a load at the time that I left but haven't picked it up yet. They put on my DAC that I quite under a load.Figured I was screwed as far as a driving job.I called Maverick and talked to a recruiter and was told I had to wait 1 year due to the DAC report.I called the Safety director at Maverick and start Orientation Sept.16th. My main point here is never give up.If a recruiter turns you down try and talk to someone in Safety.Pursue it as far as you can.

I can tell you that Maverick has an "unwritten" 1 year policy that applies in a lot of areas. They usually won't tell you this, but I've heard and seen it too many times. A friend of mine was turned down by Maverick in school because he had been terminated by the USPS a few years ago. Technically, he was layed off, but the USPS classified it as "terminated" because he was let go. They advised him to go with another company for a year or so and then reapply. He went with PTL worked for them for about 16 months and reapplied with Maverick. They accepted him with open arms and I just talked to him yesterday. He went through orientation and securement training and is in his second week out in his truck. Last week, he worked 4 days and told me that he made more in those 4 days than he ever made in any week with PTL and he usually came home once per month with them.

Another friend was let go by Maverick because someone accused him of hitting their truck in a truckstop. He had proof that he wasn't even in that truckstop on that day, had a log book and Qualcomm to prove it, but he decided not to fight it and moved on to Gypsum Express. A couple of weeks ago he hit the 1 year mark and called Maverick to find out that he is now eligible for rehire. My trainer at Maverick was let go after 2 years because of too many speeding tickets. He went to Howard Transportation and worked for a little over a year, learned his lesson on the tickets and kept his nose clean. Then he went back to Maverick and has been back there since 1999.

1 year seems to be the magic number with Maverick and I'm sure that applies to most companies. Even if someone turns you down, get started someplace else, stay out of trouble and there's a good possibility you can get accepted by your original "preferred" employer after a year or so.

I have been trying to get ahold of a recruiter from Mavrick, I have left a message, emailed and called again today and when prompted to press 2, it said was unable to connect. I'm in Rhode Island but not sure if I'm in their area of hire. They seem to have a great package deal for a newbie. Any input.

You can go to www.drivemaverick.com and they have a map of their hiring area.I believe you are out of the hiring area. Nothing else when you call instead of punching "2" press "1" that will at least get you to a recruiter that can get you to the right person.Good luck, they are a great company.

I just completed my Orientation at Maverick on Thursday. I went to their CDL sponsored school at ASU. I can tell you personally that they have been very good to me. Ever driver I talk to really enjoys it there. We had three returning employees in my orientation class and that should tell you something. They believe in being totally honest and upfront, running legal, and safety is big. If any one would like some info just ask. I leave with a trainer in the next few days so I will try to respond as soon as possible.

I happened to have run across one of our PGT drivers in OH the other day who used to work for Maverick...(Driver trainer with 12 years)

He had nothing but praise for Maverick.

The ONLY reason he left for PGT was the fact that his wife has been sick the last few years and he wanted a better health insurance plan.

I've only talked to ONE driver for Maverick that had complaints but after a short conversation I pretty much figured the guy for a "whiner" who would have complaints no matter how good a company he worked for.
