Novacane, you're my HERO! You epitomize every GOOD thing about the trucking industry, except those in charge!

Your visual about seeing a "big load" in a rest area BEFORE you even started trucking, explains for me all I needed to know.

You are a credit to your sex (as was said in "On Golden Pond") and should be held as an 'example' to all who aspire to Drive Truck!

You make ME feel like a "steeringwheelholder" and "I" drive/ride 6000 miles a week across this entire nation! Dust storms, weather fits!, traffic, mechanical problems, you NAME it!!

But, I can really relate to the image of a "team!" Yes, I drive TEAM and I love it! Driving team means, "never having to say We're sorry!" It means having a team with you at all times, doing what is necessary to get the job done!

But enough advertising for my company!

Glad to hear things are looking up. You deserve it! And yes, unlike Lady North and others who've been doing this for quite some time, with only a year under your belt, you (and I) are just a novice.

I have gained greatly from the technical knowledge YOU and others present. YOU, it seems, came here only looking for our support. And that you have!

Hobo

Yeah, but how long have you been driving Lady North?
14 months, 2 months longer than you

I haven't ever seen you mention it, but I have always assumed that you have been a driver for a long time, at least that's the way I picture you in my head from all the information you give on these boards.
I will take that as a compliment. I have loved my job from day one and made it my priority to learn everything I can and get extremely good at it. So far my plan has worked. I only had 17.5 hours driving instruction, I've learned most of the good stuff from listing to the guys with 35+ years experience yack in coffee shops.

Second question, I bet you don't work for a company as big as Roehl, you probably got hooked up with a really good job, as will I after I get another year under my belt, since nobody hires around here unless you have 2 years experience.(none of the good places anyway)
We have about 600 trucks. Might be small by US standards, but its fairly big for up here. My boss did get questioned after he snuck me in as I did not have the required miles to get hired. (150,000 km req'd, I had 28,000 of short haul/bush work. lol) He handed them my paperwork to sign when they were depserate for someone to take a load that day, when they realized it, they weren't happy. He saw fit to give me a chance and its worked out rather well for them.
So, I may be the "low man" on the totum pole, but I am pretty darn proud to be earning that much money.
I didn't mean to try and make you fel your paycheck was inferior, just trying to get you to see again that there is more out there for you than Rhoel.

Now, if you ARE around my experience level, and you make that much, with that much home time, my only defense is, uh, well, you have to drive in snow all the time, and uh, it's cold, really cold, and, well, that's all I can think of, lol.
lol.... Hey the snow is cool, no pun intended. It's dry in the winter and not even slick. I prefer the snow in the winter to the tourists in the summer!

uh, not sure where you all are assuming this information from. I quite often discuss my length of time behind the wheel.

I started my first driving job January 24, 2005.
I believe Novacane started March 1 someone said?

Yes, I'm definately no novice like you two, I've got 5 extra weeks under my belt!

Much of that may be supply/demand, with the oilfield buzzing up north.
Sorry, no again. We don't have any oilfield work up here. The natives won't allow it on 'their' land.
We have the potential to have a pipeline going in sometime in the next few years and people are talking big money then. As for now, this has no affect on my paycheck.
If I wanted to live in Grande Prairie Alberta, or somewhere in Northern BC, I could make some decent coin.

I sense a cat fight coming between Lady North and Novocaine. I call dibs on the video. Can we ask what company you work for Lady North?

So, I may be the "low man" on the totum pole, but I am pretty darn proud to be earning that much money. I could stay out for weeks at a time, and really sacrifice home time, if I was guaranteed to make that much money, that would change our lives literally. Of course, most weeks are in the 400 range, but that is still great money for me.
I would say part of the reason this is great money for you is i because you love what your doing. To me, if what im doing is what brings me the greatest satisfaction, The money is only part of the rewards. A person has to love what their doing. You can make all the money in the world and work at a job you hate and where is the pleasure in that, where is the joy of looking forward to going to work the next day. All the other is just icing on the cake. (And i like cake)
400 a week is not the best as far a conventional job. But hey - truck driving isnt conventional.

Yes men think, we just like to fantasize also    sometimes we get the two confused.
