Thanks for all the replies..
I am going to wait until I return from Kuwait... Right now I am going to make $86,000 tax free for the year in Kuwait, plus my Army retirement pay.. I don't think I can make that much driving. Even if I stay out 365 days straight.. lol

If you can stand it, you might want to consider teaming to boost your earnings.
Team drivers usually get 20-40% more per mile, in many cases the senior of the two drivers sets the pay rate and any good carrier is going to keep you away from the shippers and receivers that waste time.

I honestly don't see how you can back up a statement like this. I can't speak for ANY company, but I know that the company that I started with does not do this. Maverick Transportation has the exact same pay scale for a driver going through their school as they do for a driver who got the CDL on their own. There are no deductions whatsoever. The deal is, you attend their school without putting up much money of your own at all and once you've been there for 6 months, the slate is wiped clean. If you leave before your 6 months are up, you pay back a pro-rated portion of the $2500 it cost them to put you through school. It's really more of a perk to entice potential drivers than anything else. I know that there are other companies that offer the same type of deal. However, I know that some do deduct from your pay for a period of time, but this does not apply to ANY company out there.

Con-Way offers in house training truly free and clear. It takes 3-4 months as you train 5 hours per day and work the dock for 6. You effectively pay for the schooling on on the pay differential for an apprentice vs. what a regular employee makes.
Once you have your license you can leave, but you're a fool as you have one of the best jobs in trucking that a noob can get. |
