Default Pre-Pass

Hi we work for a company that charges the truck driver $4.00 per week for pre-pass .... we were just wondering if this is normal and other companies do the same, or are we getting ripped off?

Hard to tell. Sometimes I get charges for pre-pass on my statements for like $14 and change.

Now, form a n o/o (me) point of view, its worth the couple bucks to keep moving and avoid the possibility of a random inspection (because my books are ALWAYS up to date  ) as well as the additional fuel consumed getting the truck back up to speed.

IF you're a company driver, then at 26cpm, you need to drive 15 miles just to afford this luxury, so its a toss up.

I have never been charged for prepass at any of the companies I worked for as a company driver.

The cost of pre-pass should not be passed on to company drivers. That would be like the company charging the driver to use the qualcomm.

I have never heard of a company charging a company driver for pre- pass. I believe that I paid $14.95/month for mine. Most owner operators will pay for their own pre-pass, but it must be ordered through the company under whose authority you are running.

That explains my scenario.

TMC will charge you $2.50 per week, plus any unauthorized tolls. I am not sure exactly why, perhaps I will find out.

Very true. Some of our accounts have Pre-Pass paid for by the company. Why should the driver have to pay for the convience? It is part of the company equipment.
