It's not called "Old Fat Guy disease" anymore. You stop breathing when you sleep and your brain wakes you up so you don't get good REM sleep. I have sleep apnea. I got diagnosed before I got my CDL and sleep with a CPAP machine now. I used to have a 3:00pm wall every day where I had to fight to stay awake but with the CPAP that stopped. The reason I went and had a sleep study was because my wife said I would quit breathing at night (see FYI below), so I went and had the sleep study done. My study showed I stopped breathing 20 - 30 times an hour and not getting REM sleep. Your brain needs REM sleep. I've snored since I was a kid but the older you get the more times you stop breathing at night.

Here are some questions you need to ask yourself.
1. Has your spouse or significant other ever mention that you stopped breathing while you slept.
2. Feeling tired in the afternoon or sleepy when reading or watching TV. (after eating is normal for this too)
3. Can you remember a dream you had in the last 7 days? (No REM, no Dreams)

There is a new procedure that can be done now so I can get rid of the CPAP.

PS...If you answer yes on your medical card questionnaire to snoring be prepared to have a sleep study done.

FYI...Reggie White died because of sleep apnea

a surgeon told me the other day that a person with sleep apnea their breathing can shut down up to 300 times during the night ,just depends how severe of a case a person has.I told no wonder a person wakes up so damm tired and aggitated all day he said that is useally the reason.

I just read an article that Schneider is testing their drivers for sleep apnea and they are making sure they get the machine needed. There was an interview with a team that works for them and both of them claim the machine changed their lives and they can't believe the difference.
