Swift Transport
Hi all, I need some people to tell me what they think about swift transport. I'm new to trucking here, but I've been driving before and now I had an offer from Swift Transport and I will probably be going to do cdl training in MO in April.
How is the hometime and pay is this company and more. Please tell me what you think and how your experience was or is. Thanks R

Gotta get your start here somewhere! There are worse companies out there that prey on newer drivers. While your not the normal new driver your new to driving here. Try to get at least a year in with them and better opportunities will open up for you. Whatever you do, if they push a Lease Program on you, turn it down. Its real name is Fleece Program, its only there to make the company even more money while you bust your tail to sratch out a meager living.

Swift is no worse than any of the other leeches. Just remember your walking into a rigged game. So no matter the sales pitch or appearence of good will and honesty you will loose at the business owner, lease purchase game. Just imagine having to take a few weeks off to take care of the affairs of parent that died unexpectedly. All your fixed costs are now waiting for you times 3 or 4 or more, a hole that will not allow you to generate any take home pay for another few weeks. If you think you'll ever get that bonus "completion" check or see the title of that truck your wrong. All companies have a fixed success rate of 1 to 2% just to keep the word out that the program works.

The problem with leas purchase or whatever fancy name they have for it is two fold.
One: Your responsible to a company that purchased the truck and trailer AND relying on this same company to provide you the revenue to pay for it. This at best makes for a conflict of interest. Two: Freight rates are double of what you generate as a business owner. See if you can get ahold of some recent freight bills and you'll see that there is not a single commodity hauled by truck under $2 per mile + fsc. My company hauls truckload freight for no less than $2.50 pm up to $4 pm depending on geographic location (deadhead) and commodity. This is where a true Owner Operator can be successful at 70-80% of gross revenue and the lease purchase driver FAILS at 50% of gross revenue. Any questions?

Don't let them talk you into a Leash program. They never work out in favor of the driver ~ at first maybe, but soon the miles will start dropping off and you'll be stuck in a Lease.... 'just saying'
