That's right, it goes on your license, not the vehicle.

I just started driving for a company and they asked if my speeding ticket was in a commercial vehicle...

I don't know why... Do they hit you with more points if the ticket is in a CMV???

They probably wanted to know if you were speeding in a CMV for hiring reasons, or insurance reasons. The points system is the same, no matter what vehicle a CDL holder is in.
