Default TMC: "Approved for Hire"

Ok, so I'm in CDL School right now, finally got my approval from a TMC recruiter. Pretty happy about it.

Who has been to their orientation in Iowa? Can you gimme some idea of what to expect?

Don't confuse "approved for hire" with actually having a job. There are many things that can and do go wrong resulting in people being sent home. Many companies do not finish background checks etc. until the driver actually shows up. This saves them the expense of doing those checks for drivers who don't make it to orientation.

Oh, I know I'm not "hired", just "approved for hire". I have no worries about background checks. I have a govt SECRET clearance. Couldnt get that with a dirty background, nor could I have worked for a REIT for the past few years with a shady background. Driving record is good, employment history solid, the only thing that remains is finishing my 160hr CDL course.

Definitely. Got Prime and KLLM on the line also. Gotta call to see where they are in the process. I keep getting a call from Prime at home when I called back and left a message to call my cell. :roll:

Thanks devildice!

Yes, I entered the Corps in 1982 out of high school. Echo 2/25 in Harrisburg, PA (Reserve). Served there until 1988, then reenlisted IRR until 1990. All efforts during the 90's to get back in were stomped into the ground (The military was being ripped apart after the Gulf War).

I reenlisted last year after 16 years out at the ripe old age of 42. It took me 18 months to convince them to let me back in. They actually had the audacity to approve it. I am now serving at 3rd Civil Affairs Group in Reserve at Camp Pendleton, CA.

Not sure what you're looking for in a company, but have you looked into Davis Transport as a possibility?

Well, I guess what I'm looking for is a decent starting pay (maybe opportunities to be able to earn more money based on effort) for a newbie balanced with reasonable home time. I know full well that newbies like myself dont get paid well or get much home time, and I know that I will not replace my Corp income (I was laid off in May - I was an Assist VP), but my plan is to move out of CA with this more "portable" job to NC where my dad, brothers, and other relatives are.

TMC seemed to look very good with the % program vice the cpm. I was pointed to them by another Marine who drives flatbed for Prime.

Havent looked at Davis Transport. Do they do flatbed?

Devildice, quit trying to corrupt the boy. Your choice of TMC is just about the best choice you can make. You will make about $50K to $60K your first year if you are willing to work. Who in there right mind would go with a name like Davis? :shock:

TMC = Trucker's Marine Corps.

Semper Fi!
