I got mine....company reimbursed for it....and because I already had hazmat it came back pretty quick. Since I originate out of and often deliver back to the Savannah area its needed to go to loading points here. Also we go to other ports as well. I can well imagine that before to long many places are going to want to see it as well.

Having just left the maritime industry to begin anew in OTR, I can tell you, TWIC is not going away. With the climate today regarding terrorism, illegal aliens, and the whole lot, it ain't goin away. The towboat company I just left is requiring all employees to get the card and there are over 9000 employess for this particular company. One of my good friends is an engineer for another towboat company that is held entirely by Cargill and they are now required to have it as well. I'm sure the "old timers" will have issues with it but for the newbies it's just another part of doing business.
I'm seeing something here.....looking........looking....LOOKING.....I see a green and white boat......I seeeeee...I seeee........I seee FOSS. :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Port Canaveral requires the card for entry, While the Port of Tampa will let you get in for the next month or so as long as you can show you have applied for the card, you also need a port pass in Tampa while none is needed for Canaveral. So it is quite apparent that the rules vary from Port to Port.
Took me all of 30 minutes in the office and a four week waiting period to get mine, the comapny paid for it, plus reimbursed us for mileage and time. timberwolf

So basically this is only something you need if your hauling to/from ports, correct?
Seems like nothing I need to worry about..Just wanna be sure though.

I have my MMD from when i worked on tugs. I got a letter in the mail from the coast guard saying that if i dont get a TWIC by april 15, 2009 they will void my MMD. All the BS i had to go threw to get my MMD im not going to have it voided over something dumb like a twic. I will just pay the 130 bucks and call it a day.:thumbsup:

"A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC™) is a biometric credential that ensures only vetted workers are eligible to enter a secure area of a Maritime Transportation Security Act-regulated port or vessel unescorted."
