When I was in training I had an instance where my trainer tried that crap. He said the top bunk is yours ,and the bottom was his ,and that's that I told him take it up with safety if you have A problem with it I then said if you want to keep discussing it with me you better hope where ever I toss you out of the truck has cell service or you'll be making a long walk ! I think it's against company policy to sleep in the top bunk with the truck rolling at all companies ,And I'm not sure but i think it's against DOT rules as well .

It's not a safety issue if the truck has the proper restraints in the top bunk, which the Volvo 780's have at USX.

Kreilkamp is headquartered down near Milwaukee, Wi. Their trucks look really nice and any of the drivers I ever ran with seemed to like them. The only thing I see is that if they are from Wi and have a terminal in N.J. I don't think the west coast is in your future.

Sleeping in the top bunk while the truck is in motion is ILLEGAL. No matter what type of truck it is or what state you are in. If a driver makes you sleep in the top bunk while driving who's to say they pay attention to low clearance warnings. They should know better, expecially a trainer. Makes me glad I didn't sit with one.

Do you have any links to the laws that state it's illegal to be in the top bunk of a truck while it's in motion?

Can not find an actual link. I could be wrong. My head instructor when going through school is where I heard that from. When I get back in my truck I will take a look at the regs and see if I can find it.

The law is for the safety of the person sleeping. Just in case the driver hits a low clearance something.

If it turns out to not be a law, then it should be made into one.

when i started as a company driver that was company policy at Werner that you could not be in the top bunk while the truck was in motion. you had to be in the bottom bunk with the safety straps on

It's against the law to be in a seat/bed without safety restraints. As long as there are proper restraints in the top bunk, there's nothing illegal about it. It may be against company policy, but it's not against the law.
